    Quirkiness and heart

What a great start to what I know will be a fabulous series, one that I have been a part of in the little Facebook group Coffee Talk on the Boardwalk - I even got to name one of the shops. This prequel sets up Cinnamon Bay and it's quirky characters perfectly. Eva owns Brewed with a View and is just wanting it to be a success. Mac comes to town looking for some information on his biological family. What they both don't expect is each other. Delightful, funny, sweet and fabulous. Super excited and cant wait for the next one.

    An entertaining enough beach read

The story's opening scene is cute - a bit over dramatized but it was a little funny, so it engaged me right away. The rest was decent. I found Mac's family search really interesting. Mac & Eva's relationship development goes back & forth maybe a bit much, but overall, theirs was a good story. *Spoiler potential* The concept of the Café Amour was made so much of & repeated so much that the end was a tad confusing - Eva didn't believe in it, yet apparently she did after all & needed to be straightened out so she didn't throw away what she might have...? From the way it started, I had hoped for one of those stories where it leaves the reader wondering if it might be true. That it didn't wasn't a fault, but the handling of it seemed like the author started out with one intention & finished with another. The thing with Eva's dad was also off. It seemed like we were going to learn something pivotal about his abandonment of her, like her mom had hidden some info, but we never did. So did he inexplicably appear after sooo long just to upset her so she'd fall apart later with Mac? It didn't ring true. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Clean romance level: passionate kissing, an explicit though not overly graphic sex scene with multiple implied ones that follow as the story progresses Language: occasional use of common swear words Religion: uses the Lord's Name in vain several times

    a good blend of crazy

What's not to love about this collaboration. Small town, the hens, legends and love. All things that would make you want to read it put together with just the right blend to bring about a fun, enticing read with just the right amount of angst, inner dialogue, and of course demons/issues/baggage. Yup these two have it in spade from guilt over the desire to know his family history, her over being left by people who love you these two are a collective mess. Thank God for "The Hens" cos they are truly the force that brought these two together and sealed it. You'll love them they add hilarity and a good dose of crazy to a fun story even with it's harsh realities of life. I love these small town reads, not that I personally would ever do it but the reads are definitely worth it and so they say is the coffee.
