  • Loved it

Although this is the second book in the series, it is a stand alone and it is not necessary to have read book one, Anton before reading Luca. However, do yourselves a favour if you haven’t read Anton and one click. One of my favourite books from Brenda Rothert, ever. Now, on to Luca. Luca is just as swoon worthy as Anton. His love of family, his strength and the support that he shows to those he loves is overwhelming. There are also many truly snort worthy, laugh out moments whilst reading and I was riveted from the first to the last chapter. Chicago Blaze is fast becoming one of my favourite series and I cannot fathom how Ms. Rothert can top the two books she has written so far in this series. Emotional reads that will get your feelings going, this is a book you do not want to miss out on reading. Abby is the perfect woman for Luca and I am so pleased that these two got together. Both have experienced so much tragedy in their pasts that they truly deserved to find happiness. This is an emotional roller coast of a read that I highly recommend. I laughed, I cried but throughout it all I loved Luca and Abby, both separately and together. Not going to say anymore other than do yourselves a favour and one click this one on release. You won’t be disappointed and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

  • Must Read

I’m not sure I have the words to describe how much I loved this book but here goes...... Luca has found himself the soul guardian for his two nieces and one nephew in the most sad and unfortunate circumstances but he is determined to give these adorable children everything they need whilst juggling his NHL career. Abby is a woman who comes across as a strong personality who knows what she wants and it’s only as the story unfolds do we find out about her tragic past. If ever a couple are perfect for each other this couple are it, they had an uphill journey before they accepted their feelings for each other and together they just became stronger. The children had the best one liners even through their sadness. This book may be an emotional roller coaster but it’s a ride you will want to get on and never get off because this story will give you all the feels you would expect in a truly 5 star read. Book 2 in the Chicago Blaze but Luca can certainly be read as a stand-alone and all that’s left to say is THIS IS A MYST READ for every lover of romance . Can’t wait for book 3

  • Luca is the ultimate hero for me...

4 stars — This was a strange one for me, b/c I loved both Luca and Abby’s individual stories, and their eventual together story, but it took me a bit to be invested in their romance…but I was still satisfied in the end. I was so intrigued by Luca and his situation when we met him in Anton’s book, and he didn’t disappoint. He was a hero who was so easy to fall in love with. He was kind, honourable, easy-going, with a deliciously dirty mouth. I LOVED the way he was with his nieces and nephews. From the first chapter in his POV, I was hooked by him. I felt his grief, his struggle, his concern over how well he was doing raising these kids. He was what I love in heroes: a GENUINELY good guy. And while I’m usually not a big kid person, you couldn’t help but fall in love with Cora, Jack & Emerson. They were unique, delightful, but also realistically kids (so not delightful all the time). I loved the family he had created with them. Abby took me a bit longer to glom onto, because we got her story in bits and pieces. The Abby we first meet I had nothing in common with, and while I liked her, I didn’t connect with her as well. But as we got to know what made her tick, I did empathize with her past and how that had shaped her. I particularly LOVED her friendship with Percy. I sincerely hope we see more of Percy in this series, because she was easy to love. As for Luca and Abby together…well, they were hard to become invested in at the beginning, since they started as a genuine one night stand. Sure, the steamy chemistry was good, but I find I tend to be less invested if I don’t get the feelings first. I actually didn’t really feel the growth of their feelings for one another…it just sort of happened. It wasn’t believable for me. BUT, if I just accepted that part, I loved where their relationship went once they sort of stepped things up. It’s kind of a conundrum, but I decided to just go with the flow. As I mentioned above, there were some great secondary characters in this one, from the kids and Percy to Luca’s teammates. I think normally the misstep in the relationship would have had me marking this one a 3.5 stars or lower, but I really loved the individual stories, so I decided to go with my gut. Luca’s story alone was worth the time reading. Can’t wait to see who Victor’s going to match up with!

  • Emotional, but still a must read!

This book was an absolute total emotional roller coaster! From the highest high of an immediate connection, to the lowest lows of sharing a past full of devastating hurts, this book had me smiling one minute, and crying my eyes out the next. Abby is a strong woman, one who has built her own business from the ground up, but there is also a vulnerability to her, which she hides behind her work. She has a past that she shares with no one, and she holds herself apart from everyone. She is alone, and has no intentions of changing that. Luca's life is crazy busy, and he has little time to add anything to it. But a chance meeting on a night out with the guys leads him to an amazing woman. A single night together, that's all that she wants, all that she can give. But he still hopes to hear from her again. This book was one that will stick with me. The emotional upheaval experienced by the characters was heart wrenching, and left me in tears at times, but their story was one of harsh experiences and renewal, acceptance and moving past the hardships. This was an amazing read, one that I'd recommend to anyone!

  • Luca Is A Keeper

When Chicago Blaze player Luca Campbell crosses paths with businesswoman Abby Daniels, the attraction is immediate and mutual. Abby is strong, successful in her own right, and knows what she wants. But the Abby that Luca meets and falls for is not exactly who she seems to be. Because Abby has dealt with unimaginable loss and heartache, and she will keep that part of her life hidden, no matter how close she and Luca grow. As book boyfriends go, it would be hard to find a better one than Luca Campbell. Sexy, nice, and a famous athlete, yes, but first and foremost, he's a family man, dedicated to making sure that his nieces and nephew can experience normalcy, security, and, above all, unconditional love. Having dealt with heartbreak of his own, Luca knows that Abby is keeping a part of herself closed off, and he is determined to break down her barriers and know the "real' her. Proving that she knows her stuff, Brenda Rothert has scored big with LUCA, the second book in her Chicago Blaze series. These characters and their stories are more than just another sports romance. There are back stories here that add depth and interest, and make for an emotional and satisfying reading experience. LUCA is definitely a romance book, but it is the emotion and heart that makes it more for me. Already a big fan of the first two books, I can't wait to meet the rest of the Blaze players because Brenda has done such a masterful job with these characters and their stories. Victor is next up, and I'll be anxiously waiting to see what Brenda has in store for him. If hot hockey players with heart that get their HEAs are your thing, these books are for you, so add them to the TBR and enjoy.
