    Emotional read

Wow! Not sure how to start with this one. First, it's definitely a book that is far different from my normal reading. It's dark - very dark, intense, and raw. The writing was incredible, it pulled me in and made me feel part of the culture even though my life experiences are far different. The characters come to life and you feel every emotion with them. This is a story of addiction, drugs, rape, and abuse. It's a difficult eye opening read that will pull at every emotion you possess. I would definitely recommend it.

    Very dark raw read

This is a real dark realistic story of drug and what they will do to you. Living in low incoming housing is no reason to let the world bring you down to their level. Bleu has dreams she is going to get out and better herself. Living with drug user parents and seeing how it effects life she will not let it have that effect on her. Her life has been hard just when she is about to get out things turn worse leaving her shot. From there things just go down hill, she still won't give up her dream, with a little help from a friend that pushes her to move on she does just that. Even though this is not my cup of tea I did feel this was well written with many twist and turns to keep you the reader interested. This book could have been pulled out of todays headlines the author gives you real characters that you feel compassion for. Bleu at a very young age I just wanted to grab pull her out of the book and take her home with me. There are some characters you just want to pick up and shake others will grab your heart. It was a pleasure to see Bleu pick her self up rising above her past although I wouldn't have make some of the decision she did and was a little shocked that she was pulled into what she ran so far from. It was still an intriguing read with the author bring true issues right in your face with no pretty flowers or pretty words this not a book for the light of heart. If you have trouble with very raw issues such as rape and drug addiction that shows the true side than this is not the book for you. I do have to say this does end in a cliffhanger that will reach in an grab you. I have to say this was not my cup of tea but it was well written and believable. There will be readers out there that love this type of read. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean it will not be for you.

A tragic story of a woman trying to find her way

This is a story about a broken girl desperately trying to find her place in this world. Bleu Montclair definitely was given a shit hand from the very beginning. Both her parents were drug addicts, her father was shot and killed right in front of her, and then she was left with her drug whore of a mother until she was old enough to leave. That’s enough to leave anyone desperate to get far away from their home town to find some happiness and safety. However, though Bleu does eventually leave, her life isn’t anywhere near what she had planned. Sometimes the past becomes your future whether you want it to or not, and Blue struggles to find a way to fight her way back to her happy place. Bleu has A LOT of soul searching to do in order to fix her life. She does have someone who’s willing to help her through her very long journey, however it’s up to Bleu to except it. Will she ever be able to save herself or will she continue down the road of ruin she’s currently on? Though Bleu’s story was absolutely heartbreaking to read, this book just didn’t suck me in like I was hoping it was going to. I’d like to know what fate decides to write for Bleu after the way the book ended, it’d be interesting to see how Bleu comes out in the end. **ARC was provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

    captivating & hard hitting

This story is raw & real. Antoinette draws readers deep into this world, chock full of dark undertones. But it is the realism of the story that drew me in. The realities of rape and drug addiction are prominent through. At the same time, Luxe is full of twists and turns that kept me on my toes. The novel itself was well written, allowing readers to flow through the story. The characters that Antoinette creates are so emotional. Their stories are hard hitting. They’re the type of people that you can’t look away from, even if they live worlds away from you. Seeing Bleu fight and rise above her past was quite intriguing. The in depth development of her character, as well as her relationships was all encompassing. I definitely had mixed feelings about her decisions and actions, but that made Bleu all the more real for me. This was definitely a captivating and hard hitting novel. It was full of the darkness of life and the hard hitting realities that many of us choose to ignore on a daily basis. Antoinette brings it all to life in a big and un-ignorable way.
