  • Loved it!!

To say this is totally unlike anything I’ve ever read before would be an understatement! I’m not sure how to even describe this book as so much happens, and it seems like the description really can’t do it justice. You just have to read it to see all the crazy and shocking, and touching things that happen. As I was reading, I kept thinking how it all felt and sounded so real (not contrived or like a ‘poser’ –ha) yet it is clearly fiction. I really enjoyed Mr. McShane’s style of writing and found it just so easy to get lost in. I was actually disappointed when it was over and went to see if he’d written any other books. Alas, not yet, but hopefully he will soon! As you can probably tell I loved this incredible book and give it a very well-deserved 5 stars.

  • AN Incredible Ride

Yeah, I read this book in one night. Didn’t want to stop reading it until it was over, it was that good! I LOVE the tv show “Sons of Anarchy” but I’ve never actually read a book about an MC… and I admit my expectations were high, and I didn’t expect to like it as much as the show…… so imagine my surprise when I actually liked it better! I thought it seemed less contrived and more down-to-earth (in a crazy, weird way) and showed a lot of the human and emotional side that happens when caught up in that way of life. And I feel like I learned a lot more about the lifestyle too (The appendix at the end was handy too). They sure do have an interesting way of making their friends “comfortable”! LOL. Anyways, the ending wasn’t necessarily what I would have hoped for, but this novel packs an emotional punch that pushes the boundaries of typical literature. And the writing is fantastic.

  • Amazing journey

WARNING…when starting this book make sure you don’t have anywhere you need to be or anything you need to do because you won’t want to stop reading until you’ve finished it all!! Trust me on this! The book pulls you right in from the very beginning and just keeps going for there. The characters of Jake, Diego, and the others, were genuine and really believable. Definitely not some cliché cardboard cutouts. Almost makes you wonder how much is real or based on real people! I think what I liked the most about this book was just the overall feel the author managed to create where it felt intimate, like we are actually in the story as it is happening, yet at a safe distance from the danger. We can experience their live vicariously through them, and it’s a thrilling, eye-opening ride indeed! Highly recommend, and best suited for mature readers as there is quite a bit of language and some violent/sex scenes.

  • very impressive!!

First, I have to say that I don’t normally read books that are “Motorcycle Fiction”, but I was looking for something a little out of my comfort zone and this book sounded intriguing and had some really great reviews. Well, I am most certainly glad I took the chance on C.J. McShane’s “M.C. I Am My Brother’s Keeper”! This was a brilliant novel and very impressive for a debut!! Jake Colman’s life changes when he crosses paths with the VP of the Los Patrons Motorcycle Club. This sets out a chain of events and nonstop, crazy action that keeps going through to the end. I was very impressed by the easy flow and rapid pace of the book – I really never wanted to stop reading, because I just had to see what would happen. If I had only one complaint it was the jarring POV breach towards the end. The whole story is told in Jake’s 1st person POV, which is great- and then it switches to an omniscient 3rd person and Jake is no longer narrating. This frustrated me, but other than that I loved it. I’d recommend even to those who don’t normally read this sort of thing…try it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

  • 4 1/2 stars

From the opening pages of “I am my Brother’s Keeper” I knew it would be different from the books I’ve been reading lately and I was right! Mr. McShane sets of the tone, scenes and characterizations in a skillful way that not only pulls us in, but creates great visualizations and elicits emotional investments, even with characters who we’d think might normally be considered ‘bad’, or who have done not good things. I truly cared about the characters’ fates, and was shocked and saddened at certain things (no spoilers). An interesting and diverse cast of characters, along with several intriguing, unpredictable plotlines interwoven against action filled and dangerous setting makes this a memorable read for me. Highly recommend. (for mature readers)
