  • A fantasy book for discriminating minds

This is a fantasy book unlike any other. It is not a romance novel with a fantasy back-drop. It is not a book of valiant knights, and wizards with pointy hats. For the first time, an author creates a fantasy world where the rules and laws of magic are clearly defined. It is the first book in the "Magic by the Numbers" series. Lyndon Hardy masterfully creates his story within the parameters of those established heuristics. No Harry Potter stuff here. No deus ex machina to save the day. Quite simply he is one of the most intelligent writers of this genre, and if verisimilitude is something you value in your fiction, then this is a "must read". Not only does he create not one, but five different systems of magic, he shows his insight into human nature and human failings in the characters he creates. The amazing thing is, it only gets better from here. Having established the rules in this book, the stories get more and more sophisticated with each book in the series. If you have a hungry brain and an appetite for wonder -- read these books. They will not disppoint
