Well Worth the Journey Through the Darkness!

I received an advance review of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, and before receiving the book, J.A. warned those of us that received it that it was very dark and that if we were not prepared for that, then not to read the book. She was right. The book is very dark, so I’ll pass that same warning along to readers. However, if you take that warning to heart, you will miss some of the most wonderful tears in your eyes, heart in your throat, excruciatingly heart stopping moments that will stay with you for a long time to come... and that my friend, makes the journey through the darkness completely worthwhile. No one, and I mean no one can spin a story and draw you into it like J.A. Huss. Her characters are so real and multi-faceted. As in real life, no character is all bad or all good, and this author has a true talent for exploring all sides of her characters, allowing the reader to connect with the character on a much deeper level. Nowhere is that more evident than in this book where both of the main characters are struggling with who and what they are. As different as these characters undoubtedly are from the typical reader, you still can’t help but relate to these characters in one way or another and to feel connected to them, so please don’t let the subject matter or the darkness of the book scare you away. If you hang in there and give this book the full read it deserves, you will soooo not be disappointed.

    Hold onto your parachute

Holy crap, what a ride! Reading this book is like being pushed out of an airplane without your parachute while you are praying to your higher power to be able to survive the upcoming impact and knowing that it is going to hurt BAD! ..."Fear is not your enemy. Fear keeps you alive." So many feels that I am having difficulties even putting them into words. I found myself highlighting and making notes all the way through, because I didn't want to forget anything that I was reading. Disturbing, horrifying, exhilarating...."Limits are for finding strength. Push yourself until you can't move...and see what happens." Sydney always hoped that Case would be her salvation, but he is turning out to be her worst nightmare. "I follow him down the hallway and meet him in the dark." But things are not all roses and the brainwashing that has been done to her has her confused as to what is real and what is not. And Merc is finding that he can't be the killer that needs to be. "A real man know how to treat a woman softly." There is a happy ending here, but it will twist you all up, chew you up and spit you out to get there. Enjoy and hold on to your parachute!
