    Dystopian romantic suspense

The US has been attacked by Scorpius. There are three outcomes from contracting the bacteria. You become a sociopathic killer (aka a Reeper), you have heightened intelligence or you die. Jax is an ex-gang member turned army special ops turned leader of a vigilante group and has survived the Scorpius infection. He is leading a rag tag group of people in LA. They must scavenge for food, fuel and ammunition. Lynn survived the infection, but she was left with a blue heart. Her blue heart and her blood may be the key to finding a cure. This book contains a hurting alpha-male, a feisty heroine and several really bad guys. Mercury Striking is a good start to a new series. I can’t wait to hear more from Marvin, a lion that has escaped the zoo to roam around Los Angeles. My one problem with the book is the conflicting information about who takes a USB flash drive from the Really Bad Guy. At one point, Lynn takes it from around his neck after she shoots Really Bad Guy in the shoulder. A few pages later Jax is given credit for taking the flash drive. A small problem, but with all the world building, I was a little confused to find this contradiction. This book has good emotions (I felt tears several times), great world building, great friendship building, and great sex scenes. Solid 4 stars.

    Mercury Striking

Lynn Harmony is the one woman who could cure the disease but she is the most volatile – and vulnerable and her only hope is the mysterious damaged legend, Jax Mercury in this thrilling post-apocalyptic romance. Jax Mercury protects the weak and leads the strong but there is a lot riding on Harmony’s continued existence and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the story as they come face to face. The chemistry between Harmony and Jax is electrifying with some hot and steamy sex scenes but neither can afford to let the other in, so this relationship will just have to be one based on momentary pleasure, no matter how delicious the danger turns out to be. The characters are a compelling mix of strong and vulnerable that reaches out and grabs readers by the heart strings, especially when faced with the devastation that the plague left behind and such an uncertain future in this steady to fast paced plot full of suspense, excitement and romance. Spine tingling tension builds as the readers begin to understand just what the characters face in this post-apocalyptic world and with all the dangers that the group in post-plague L.A. are facing, some aren’t real happy about having Harmony around as others become aware of where she is, the danger continuously increases, especially as danger comes from a few unexpected sources adding lots of excitement as well as intrigue to the story. The well written scenes full of vivid details make it easy for the intriguing events to hold readers hostage while keeping them on the edge of their seat. I was completely caught up in Harmony and Jax’s story from the very beginning, in some places during the story I found I was literally holding my breath with anticipation of what was coming and in others well let’s just say the emotions that flowed from the pages were heart felt by me as well as the characters and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this fascinating new world.

Scorching new sci-fi romance from Zanetti!

Mercury Striking Review "Despair hungered in the darkness, not lingering, not languishing ... but waiting to bite. No longer the little brother of rage, despair had taken over the night, ever present, an actor instead of an afterthought." - Rebecca Zanetti, Mercury Striking Mercury Striking is Book 1 in Zanetti's newest series "Scorpius Syndrome", set in a post-apocalyptic world, six months after a deadly extraterrestrial bacterium wipes out 99% of the American population and cripples the country's infrastructure. In this frightening and uncertain world, Lynne Harmony is perhaps one of its most feared and vulnerable survivors. A beautiful and brilliant scientist, Lynne was head of the Centres for Disease Control before she became infected with a variant of Scorpius that resulted in her being marked with a "blue heart". Now she is being hunted, and in desperation she seeks the help of a legendary stranger, Jax Mercury. Jax is former military special forces, with a reputation for ruthlessly defending the survivors within his territory in Los Angeles. This being filed under "Romance" it is no surprise that they are instantly attracted to one another. It's how they handle the challenges, danger, and despair that confronts them that fuels the breathtaking excitement of their story. Together, they need to hold their community together, find a cure for Scorpius, keep a powerful sociopathic enemy at bay, all while being harassed by a number of rival gangs and zombie-esque survivors. I love reading Rebecca Zanetti's books because she doesn't disappoint in delivering heart-tugging, panty-wetting romance, but she is also one of the most intelligent contemporary writers that I enjoy. Her writing is once again direct, well-composed, insightful, and profound. I love the thoughtful epigraphs she uses to introduce her chapters. I love the way she makes her characters realistic and relatable. Most of all, she always makes me fall in love with her heroes. "I'll follow you into the depths of hell, and if I can't get you out, I'll quash the fires." - Jax Mercury. Yep, Jax Mercury is the man you want by your side in an apocalypse! With a disadvantaged childhood and delinquent upbringing, he has never been with a woman as educated and upper class as Lynne Harmony, but it turns out he's pretty well read himself and with a strong moral compass. Boy, did I fall hard for him! I can't wait for the next book, Shadow Falling, coming in September 2016. In the meantime, I recommend checking out the prequel "Scorpius Rising", a novella in the On the Hunt anthology.

    Magnificent End of World Romance!

Magnificent novel! I was intrigued when I read the premise of the book and blown away by its execution. The characters are strong, savvy and set to survive in a world that has been changed forever by a lethal bacterium. Lynne Harmony, a brilliant scientist, has made her way from the east coast of the USA to Zax Mercury’s Vanguard community on the west coast. Both of them are survivors with strength, resilience and wisdom. They dare the odds, care for others and work for the common good of all. She is pretty and he is a hunk BUT they are oh so much more than first meets the eye and they are so good together! This is a believable end of the world story that had me really thinking about the what-ifs. There is a need for hope in a world that is so different in six months from what was once the norm. Can anyone be trusted? Who is safe or unsafe? Is it better to band together or stay separate? Is there a government and if so is it for or against the common man? Will a cure be found? Will the human race survive? What is important in a world that has so changed so drastically? I was enthralled and am now wondering how I can possibly wait till September to find out what happens next! Some have mentioned in their reviews that there is a prequel – I did not read the prequel and had no trouble understanding or getting right into the book from page one. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC to read and review. Thank you to Rebecca Zanetti for such a wonderful story and for coming up with the Blue Heart!
