  • A great cozy series!

The second book in this series has left me a very happy camper. I really enjoyed the first book and was thrilled to see the second one. Filled with enjoyable characters and a solid whodunit! I’m ready for Halloween after reading this…and we have awhile to go before October even thinks about making an appearance. While each book focuses on solving a mystery, I really enjoying learning a little more about Zo as she learns it herself. Seeing Zo forming new relationships and nurturing others makes this one series that has me tuning in for more than just the whodunit. A great cozy that will have you coming back for more too!

  • This cozy series keeps getting better!

I read Open for Murder, the first book in the Happy Camper Mysteries by Mary Angela, and really enjoyed it. So when Midnight Spells Murder came to my attention and I saw that it was a Halloween cozy, I was super excited. And I’m always curious to see if the second book in a series can live up to the first book… and Mary Angela may have written an even better one! Zo is once again tangled in a murder when the author who had given a book talk about women’s empowerment and is also a witch, turns up murdered outside Zo’s store’s front door. Zo jumps into investigating and while looking for clues she comes across more information about herself and her family. Mary Angela was able to weave these two different mysteries together perfectly. While running around town talking to suspects, she and the Forest Ranger, Max, get a bit closer, George, her very large, orange tomcat gives everyone a scare, and we get to read about new, very well developed characters in the Happy Camper Mysteries. Mary Angela shines with her descriptions of the Halloween decorations and festival, as well as all the descriptions of the stores and town and had me wanting Autumn to get here faster this year. The whodunit part will leave readers guessing with lots of red herrings and a killer they may not see coming. Another great book in the Happy Camper Mysteries and I’m excited to see what adventures Zo gets into in the next book and if we find out more about her long lost family.

  • A Halloween-themed cozy mystery!

The Inquisition is over, but witches still have one thing to fear—associating with Zo. Zo is a gift shop owner in Midnight Spells Murder, the second entry in the Happy Camper cozy mystery series. She invites a witch to a book signing to celebrate Halloween. But the witch is soon found dead. And Zo is a prime suspect. With plenty of suspects, clues and red herrings, this mystery will have you guessing whodunit along with Zo. The setting in rural South Dakota and the slow simmering romance between Zo and handsome Forest Ranger Max just adds to the fun. As I get to know the personable and believable characters in this series, the books just keep getting better. 4 stars for Midnight Spells Murder. Thanks to Kensington Books, Great Escapes Book Tours, and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

  • Spooky and fun second book in series!

Mary Angela is one of my favorite cozy mystery writers. I loved A Very Merry Murder from her Professor Prather series, and then this year I started her new Happy Camper series. I was so excited for this second book. I love a holiday themed cozy mystery, and Midnight Spells Murder really delivers! Not only does it have spooky Halloween vibes, but it also has hints of wintery holiday fun to come! I was so pleased with this book. I loved getting to know all the characters from the series even more, and I was especially here for the romantic tension between Zo and Max. In the first book, I fell in love with the Black Hills setting that Mary Angela brings to life. In this book, she gives us a really strong sense of the small town itself, and I absolutely loved this. My favorite thing was some of the surprises I didn’t see coming in terms of the direction of the series and also the side stories that will hopefully continue to evolve. I had a great time reading this book and I encourage everyone to check out this series!! You can easily buy the ebooks at any ebook retailer. This is absolutely a series I want to continue reading. Thank you to @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
