    Loved it

Loved this one. Great characters make this a very enjoyable read. You don't want to miss it! After losing his wife five years ago, ranch owner Rohn Lerner is lonely and ready to make some changes in his life. When the one girl that ever turned his head as a teenager comes back to town, it's possible this is the one chance he has to find out what happened all those years ago. Perhaps it might be the answer to is future as well! Definitely one I recommend.

    Slow and Sweet

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5 I am a huge fan of Cat Johnson and her sexy as all get out cowboys. Unfortunately, the Midnight Cowboys series falls just a little bit short of what I've come to expect from her. That being said Midnight Wrangler, the 2nd book of the series was an enjoyable read that just kind of ambled along like our hero cowboy if you will. Midnight Cowboy had depth and so much emotion you couldn't help but shed more than a few tears. The romance was sweet between the Rohn and Bonnie. You just don't get the lustful punch in the gut that you come to expect from Ms. Johnson. Bonnie and Rohn were highschool sweethearts that went their separate ways when Bonnie went off to college. He never really understood why she just cut all ties, but he never went after her either. Rohn moved on, fell in love, married and later lost his beloved wife to cancer. Since his wife's passing Rohn just existed. Dating wasn't anything he even considered until his ranch hands started teasing him. My issue with Roan was he really wasn't all that old. Yet, had I not known his age I would have expected him to be in his 50's, at least. He just had this grumpy old man air about him. The losses that both of these characters went through were heart wrenching and could definitely contribute to Rohn's overall outlook on life. Thank goodness Bonnie came back to town. Rohn desperately needed some lightening up. She was a lot less uptight about life in general, but I still felt like the romance between her and Rohn was more formal than a real "you were my first love" romance should have been. Bottom line: if you are looking for a slow, sweet read that will pull at your heartstrings and not work you up too much this is the book for you.

Older H & h show that sparks can fly at any age!

Midnight Wrangler is the second in the Midnight Cowboys series but it can be read as a standalone; I liked this book a lot more than the first one. We were introduced to the hero, Rohn, in the first book but you won’t be missing anything important if you start with this one. Rohn’s wife died 5 years ago and lately he has been feeling lonely. His young ranch hands have been trying to convince him that he should get back in the ball game and begin dating. Bonnie and Rohn knew each other in high school and had one wonderful summer together before she left town. Her father’s death brings her back to the town where she grew up and where Ron still lives. They haven’t seen each other in 25 years. I loved how this book told the story alternating between present day and 1990 and also alternating between Rohn and Bonnie yet not being told in first person. In short bits and pieces we learn why Bonnie left town (and Rohn) abruptly and other details of their summer together. While it was pretty easy to guess the reason there was just enough suspense to the story to keep me from being certain about it. Bonnie was Rohn’s first love. He loved his wife very much but she’s been gone 5 years and he’s finally ready to move on. Seeing Bonnie again has reawakened the feelings he had for her years ago. Bonnie is having trouble facing what she did to Rohn and doesn’t feel like she has the right to a second chance with him. Second chance stories are one of my favorites. Throw in the fact that Bonnie and Rohn are in their 40’s and that’s just a bonus for me. Cat Johnson’s writing style in this book is captivating; once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down until I was done. I can’t wait to read the next story in this series! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

    Heartwarming Romance

Thank you SO much to Kensington Books – Zebra and NetGalley for the copy of this book to read and review. Rohn and Bonnie, separated for 25 years, meet again when Bonnie returns to Oklahoma to deal with the home her father lived in and all of the negative memories that still linger. Rohn and Bonnie are just as intensely drawn to one another as they were the summer after they graduated from high school. The story is told with flashbacks to their relationship in 1990 interspersed with their current interactions in 2015. The couple is older but will they be wiser? Will they be able to communicate in ways they were unable to before? Will the big secret Bonnie has been keeping come out and if so how will it be received? This is a novel with heart. I loved the three cowboys working for Rohn (Colton, Justin and Tyler) and look forward to finding out who each of them will end up with. I did not read book one in the series before reading this one but look forward to doing so and hope to read the rest of the series as it is published, too.

    Sweet Country Romance

This was a reconnection love story, and I happen to love those type of stories, so I did enjoy that aspect in this book. I didn't really care for the reason they left each other to begin with because it was a typical reason, and I've read it a lot, but I still really enjoyed this book, and I liked the characters. Rohn was charming and really sweet. I liked Bonnie, but I wish she had a bit more spunk, but I think Rohn and her were really adorable together, and had great chemistry. I liked the dual perspectives, and I enjoyed reading the flashbacks to when Rohn and Bonnie first connected. I like the setting of a small town and good-looking ranch hands are a good addition; can't go wrong with a some hot, manly southern men. There definitely was some spice with some love scenes, and once they reconnected, I love how Rohn was with Bonnie. I would read more from Cat Johnson, and look forward to more in this series!
