    Thanks for your feedback!

This volume, the latest in the Safehold series displays all the expertise David Weber has gained as a writer of a franchise series. Initially the first couple of books were stylistically reminiscent of CS Forrester at his best. As the series has continued the complexity and grand visions have left the naval confines and expanded into grand opera. Weber skilfully paints the villains iredeemably evil, surrounded by those lesser deamons, who just maybe able to regret their carreering path to inevitable damnation. The heroes are heroic, human, emotionally attaching and empathetic. The action is loud, twisting and favours the brave and innovative. In short my favorite series at the moment, collected in hardback to grace my shelves for long rainy weekends with a bottle or two of shiraz.

    Patience, patience

L'intrigue de la série n'avance pas beaucoup. Le contenu est plus sombre que celui des titres précédents.

    An Interesting Read But…

David Weber's novel, “Midst Toils and Tribulation,” that revolves around the human-settled world of Safehold, is a very interesting place to spend time, though there are problems. There are lots of barely fleshed-out ancillary characters that makes things a bit confusing at times. The book also doesn't reward readers who don't have the time (or the patience) to consistently keep at it because if I stopped reading for any longer than a day or two more often than I would have liked I would reopen the book to a Battle that I could barely tell whom was fighting whom. Then there's the odd way Weber spelled Safeholdian names, which at times had the odd effect of me puzzling out how they were pronounced more that caring about the actions of the people that they belonged to. Which only a little distracts from “Midst Toil And Tribulation” from being a very engaging read, though also making the Safehold series not one I can recommend to more casual readers of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
