Well-written novel about Mary Magdalene and Jesus

Miri of Magdala, whose mother owns a brothel, sinks into the depths of degradation after her mother’s death. She welcomes death by stoning but Joshua the Rabbi. Joshua introduces Miri to his followers saying: This is Miri of Magdala. She is to be one of us and she is beloved. …Weeping, Miri collapsed against him. No-one had ever accepted her this way, fully and without judgement. There are many theories about the life of Joshua (aka Jesus Christ). Did he visit Tibet, visit India, become a Buddhist or was he an Essene? Ms Pym ignores these questions.Joshua and Miri’s story begins when Joshua rescues her. From then on the reader sees him through Miri. Ms Pym’s language is powerful. The protagonists, Joshua’s mother, and other well known ones from the New Testament are skillfully introduced. I congratulate the author on her bold, unconventional version of events leading to Joshua’s death on the cross and his resurrection. She does not shrink from the agony and ecstasy of Miri’s physical and spiritual life together.

    Miri's Song

Miri's Song is a very well written and constantly moving novel that takes the reader into Miri's internal and external experiences literally from birth to having given birth to five children with her beloved Joshua. For any who have wondered about Miri (Mary) of Magdala and her relationship with her Savior, Miri's Song will fulfill you, teach you and may still leave you with unanswered questions. Whether you are a searcher or believer, Miri's Song is a great read.

Clever Twist on an Ancient Tale

This a beautifully told and different rendering of the Bible story most of us know. Miri is Mary Magdalene, a girl misused and forced into prostitution. Joshua (Jesus) rescues her, and teaches her about trust and love. I was immersed in the story, the ancient setting, and this clever twist to the tale.
