    Wonderfully different

This is a wonderfully different story. The humor is on the dry side but good just the same. Felicity is a uniquely strong and intelligent woman. Flint makes one faux pas after the other when it comes to her. Somehow she falls in love with him anyway. **** SPOILERS****There is an underlying story of assisting young women to escape from threats to their lives which explains why the staff treated her so “poorly.” I was disappointed with how easily she forgave him especially at the end. I was completely engaged in this story from the very beginning. I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

    Fun Story!

"She looked up and forgot what she was going to say. She forgot her name. He was beautiful. Tall and lean and russet-haired, with eyes the color of spring leaves and a humorous cant to his mount. Chiseled features, square shoulders, slip hips. Hard and sharp as quartz." Thus was Felicity's first look at Lord Flint. She had no idea why she had been summoned to his estate and sat to wait four days. But as she endeavored to find out why she was there, he finally told her "to marry me of course." What? It seemed like a horrible joke and she took off. This story started out with humor and a mystery and it stayed that way as I turned the pages. Felicity was an orphan, did not even know her true last name or her parentage. Why a duke would want one of his younger sons to marry her, she had no clue and neither, it seemed, did he... There is a lot at stake and if the electric current of attraction that seems to run in Felicity's veins each time he touches her also runs in his, they just might be in trouble. Good trouble! Sit back and enjoy!

    Historical Romantic Mystery

This book started out as Lord Flint proposing to school teacher Felicity because he was told that was the condition of his inheritance, but more things are going on at that estate than he realizes and Felicity holds a key she doesn’t know about. The mystery gets more involved and lives are threatened. I thought Flint was just a selfish self-centered rake at first, inviting his mistress to the same place his future bride had been placed. But he is a deeper person after his life experiences. There were plenty of funny and sometimes wacky moments in this historical romantic mystery. Why was she chosen?

I so enjoy Eileen Dryer’s stories but all the ones I have read have been current day this is my first historical and I loved it. Opening scene Felicity is hiding under a bed and it just gets better from there. The banter between Flint and Felicity was so entertaining. I enjoyed the twists in this story too. Overall this was a marvelous piece that was well-written and that I highly recommend.

    Marriage & a Mystery

Miss Felicity Chambers is the new teacher of piano and deportment at Miss Manville’s Academy for Superior Girls. She received a summons from the Duke of Lynden and spent 12 hours on a coach and 4 days waiting around the estate without any explanation. The head groom and the cat were her only company and, she said, neither of them would tell her anything. Now, Lord Flint Bracken, the Duke's third son, has been hunting for her while she hid under a bed with huge dust balls. When the woman who had followed him walked away, he bent down and offered his hand to help her out of there. And she still has no idea why she is there. She told him she was hungry and he said she would eat in her room since he did not know she was there and had brought “company” with him. When he still wouldn’t tell her why she was there, she told him she would find a way back to the school as she tried to walk past him. He grabbed her arm and said it was to her benefit to stay – but unless he had children needing teaching, she saw no point in staying! Grinning, he let her go but blocked the doorway – then bent down and kissed her mouth! He let her go again and she stumbled a little, again eliciting a grin from him. She couldn’t think after that kiss, but he was certainly having fun with her! Then he told her she was there for his acceptance of her – for marriage! He laughed again and she smacked his face and stormed away from him while the other woman laughed uproariously. Lord Flint knows this is one of the Duke’s schemes. Yet if he doesn’t go along with it, he will lose not only his house but could risk national security. Something else is going on. And despite the attraction felt by both Felicity and Flint, Felicity demands to return to the school. There are many strange things happening, and many twists and turns along the way. Grab your copy and find out what the mystery is! Nothing is what it seems!
