    Missoula

Another well researched and enthralling presentation of the story that i have come to expect from mr krakauer. Once again i have come away with a far better understand of the topic matter both specifically and in genral. A must read for anyone who wishes a better understanding of the impacts of rape as well as the political trappings that far too often suround the cases. A must read for men who tend to hide our heads instead of confronting the subject of rape.

    Shocking

JK does it again. My intro was Into Thin Air. This handles a topic that most guys have heard about. I have known men whose modus operandi was to get the girl to pass out. I have found these guys piggish but they think of themselves as real party animals.

    Tough subject but well written.

I started with Into Thin Air and have read everything he has done. Krakauer is mostly an investigative writer but Into Thin Air made it sound like the climb was his own experience. Missoula covers a brutal reality in colleges today. Young ladies are systematically overdosed on alcohol and sexually molested while incapacitated. I have heard young guys brag about doing this very thing. I had had a feeling it was the girl's own fault. But the drinks are passed off as fruit punches and not very strong while they are mixed with debilitating amounts of alcohol. Having a daughter that could have been subjected to this very same criminal activity has made me think differently about it. Its a creepy subject exposed masterfully by Krakauer. And the law enforcement people in Missoula were a special type of creep. Well done John.

    Eye Opening

Thought provoking examination of one college town's struggles to address the increase in reported sexual assaults. Some readers might struggle with the author's presentation of all of the cases examined as having occured per the victim's description, but thoe readers will likely disagree wirh the authoe's conclusions too. Most striking for me is the fact that Missoula is statistically average in reported rape per capita. Debunks the perception created in the media, and sadly emphasizes that this book is examining a microcosm of a larger societal problem. Well, I suppose equally striking is the performance of the newly elected head of th MCAO, who seems to have escaped largely unaffected by her role in the lack of prosecuting suspected rapists and her activ role in helping one student charged with rape beat the charge.

Good read. Alarming if you have college aged children.
