One of my all time favorite mystery series

For me personally, I need to feel connected to the characters in the books I read, to enjoy to the fullest. I've loved this series since the first book, Raining Men and Corpses. Raina, homicide detective Matthew Louie, (Raina's fiancé) and Po Po continue to evolve and grow as characters in this series. Raina' grandmother, Po Po is a real firecracker, sort of a Chinese Auntie Mame. Detective Sokol and officer Joanna Hopper, round out the primary ongoing characters. Though these books don't require being read in order, I recommend the whole series, without reservation. I pre-ordered Murky Passions and Scandals, the day it was announced, that's how much I enjoy this series. And I will pre-order the next in the series the day it is announced.

Can't Get Enough of This Family

Raina is a charming sleuth...but her grandmother steals the show. Raina has good instincts and follow-through, but Po Po's antics are clever and up-to-date. A little romance thrown in, and what's not to love. Plot makes sense and comes together nicely. A great fun read!

A fun mystery with lots of interesting twists

I received an advance and enjoyed it enough to want to leave a review. The 6th entry in the Raina Sun series is another winner. Raina and her Grandmother are baby sitting her niece, Lila, while Raina works as an intern for a private detective. Her first case is to follow a woman and determine where she goes during the day. While tailing the wife, she (and her Grandmother) witness the woman being abducted by two men and call it in. The problems begin when the Wife turns up alive and well, but denies there was an abduction. In hot water with her boss and then a body is discovered that is connected to the abduction. Unable to leave the case, Raina, begins investigating in earnest. With events get complicated in a delightful way. The case is laid out in a way that it is possible go guess who-dun-it. One of my favorite small elements is how the niece, Lila, always calls Raina by, “New Rain,” the literal translation of her name in the traditional format. Lila always calls her Aunt New Rain. As with all of the book, the series gives some insight into the Chinese-American cultural.

    Great!

series, chinese-customs, mystery, situational-humor, seniors, verbal-humor Every bit as hilarious as the previous books whether you've read them or not! Raina Sun and her grandmother called PoPo are on the case, and later the other octogenarians help with surveillance. And then, of course, there is PoPo's mini pumpkin launcher. A good, well written mystery with some fascinating characters and situations that will really have you spraying your caffeine!

    Quirky characters, delightful story

Raina is in the midst of it again! While trying to get hours for her PI license, she falls into a kidnapping and a murder! Po Po and her senior cronies add to the fun as they try to "help" Raina solve the case. I love these characters and their development! Looking forward to the next book!
