    Romantic fantasy novel

I picked this book up because I like the movie Lady Jane and ever since I have wanted to know more about her. These were the wrong expectations to have for this book. There are some obvious parallels to the movie but it does not have much historical value at all. My Lady Jane is divided into two parts, one part that is more or less based on historical events and the second part that moves away from history in its entirety. I liked the second part much better than the first because it's not based on history (or the movie). The magical elements like Gifford turning into a horse during the day did not bother me as much because now it became just a story. I believe I would have liked the first part better if there had been no magic. There were some random quotes from famous movies and Shakespeare thrown in that really irked me. For example, "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!" which is obviously from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Another example is "Frying pans, who knew?" which is from the Disney movie Tangled. I simply did not feel like these quotes added anything to the story and I just wish they were left out. If you are expecting a fluffy historical romance with magical elements you will probably enjoy this. My main issues are actually to be explained by my expectations, so don't expect to learn anything of value about Lady Jane and just read it like a historical fantasy not based on anything in particular. I would definitely have enjoyed it more like this. All in all, I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars but that is me being generous. It took me such a long time to get through the first part of the book but I liked the second part so much better.

    Really Fun

Very fun alternate history with a touch of fantasy. Lots of references to fantasy/comedy shows like The Princess Bride, and Monty Python.

    Entertaining, amusing read

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand (and others) is an amusing take on history. I have never read anything quite like this book. People turning into animals, attempted murder of a king, arranged marriages, and lost of other things happening. I really enjoyed reading this book. It is very loosely based on King Edward of England. Mary Queen of Scots also has a role in this story along with "good queen Bess". The story is well developed and I found it very entertaining. This was a B&N Serial read that new chapters are added each day until the book is completed. This is a wonderful way to meet new authors and different genre. I might classify this as a clean, humorous "shifter" story because one of the main characters turns into a horse every morning and doesn't change back until the sun goes down. I highly recommend this book for everyone.

    Perfect book!!!

I loved reading this book!! The "friendly neighborhood narrators" mix in magic, humour, romance, mystry, and drama in this fast paced and delicously funny read. Featuring quotes from shakespear and monty pithon. A perfect book
