    A fresh idea for adventure

The handsome actor/former journalist/religion correspondent/author Abdiel LeRoy is a British-American whose life is largely inspired by the Bible, Shakespeare, and the great epic poem, 'Paradise Lost'. As a poet Abdiel embraces giant tasks – the lives of Elijah, Obama, Bush, and Trump in his VERSES VERSUS EMPIRE series, as well as the very fine DUELING THE DRAGON, THE GOURMET GOSPEL, THE CHRISTMAS TREE and the VERSES VERSUS EMPIRE series. He also has worked as a broadcaster, financial analyst, and market commentator, while his passions also include Argentine Tango, Yoga, and competitive swimming. His voice both as a narrator for dramatic readings and on stage is being recognized as a brave new presence in the politics of the globe. As an actor, Abdiel has embodied most of the major Shakespearean roles, and on stages from New York to London to Beijing, though perhaps his most famous appearance is in the hit short-film series, ‘The Expert.’ He has also staged three one-man shows, including the famous children's tale, ‘Wind in the Willows. Now Abdiel shares his humor and experiences and ideas about his house sitting posts. In his words, ‘I begin this book sitting in a beach house in Costa Rica. The sea's deep rumble underlies birdsong, accompanied by the occasional percussion of a ripe mango or coconut thudding to the ground. In the garden, juicy pineapples await, while hummingbirds flit from bloom to bloom. I will remain here several months as I house sit for a couple visiting family in the US. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the company of their friends and neighbours here. More nearby house sits await as I make friends with the local “gringos”. A house sit, in short, is where a homeowner invites someone to live in their home while they're away, in order to look after pets and/or safeguard the property. There may be a brief overlap of occupancy at the start of a sit, as the sitter arrives early to become acquainted with the situation and ask questions, and sometimes at the end of a sit too, depending on timings and travel arrangements. I began sitting in earnest in 2014, enjoying more than two full years of back-to-back assignments in the UK, with occasional forays to Greece, Argentina, and now Costa Rica.’ Informative and rich in references to Shakespeare, Abdiel’s book is full of instructions and the dos and donts of housesitting while at the same time entertaining the reader with his special brand of humor. This is a delightful – and useful – little memoir.

An interesting look through the eyes of a poetic a

Leroy pens an interesting title as he not only shares his experiences, he speaks from his heart. I am familiar with Leroy's work, and there is a big difference in the type with his other work, but there is also a familiarity. I can feel the author vibe in his poetic words, sharing experiences, giving advice, and also making the reader slightly envious of his adventures. Leroy writes, what Shakespeare writes "Your loves as mine to you." As I love Shakespeare, I think that love draws me to Leroy's work. Housesitting is not all perks and pleasures though, but it seems like an adventure, for sure. This is another treat from the author, but it shows another level in the author's life. I look forward to reading more by this author. This read is definitely recommended by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.

Tired of the corporate grind and ready to live!

I have always been interested in traveling and adventure. So, when I came across this book about the benefits of house sitting I couldn't wait to read it! I love how the book starts out by talking about being tired and stressed about corporate life. That is a life that I no longer want to live! Like the author, I left the corporate world to begin a new life in Costa Rica. However, you still must pay the bills and house sitting is a good way of doing that while maintaining a high standard of living. I enjoyed Leroy's insight on how to get started as a house sitter. I will use this book as a blue print to begin my own house sitting adventure. This is a good read for anybody with a passion for travel!
