Myth and Magic! A Mystery Romance Novel!

Myth and Magic by Mae Clair is a novel with an interesting mystery. Veronica Kent is the manager of Stone Willow Lodge. They run retreats for executives. Lately people have been hearing a lady crying, seeing strange apparitions, a dead dog (cut open) in a suite, a leg in a fireplace, and much more. What is going on? Reservations are being canceled, so Breckwood Industries (who owns the lodge) decides to bring in an investigator. They decide to bring in their brother, Caithelden Lairen (he changed his last name). Caith left the area when he was eighteen and has not returned. Caith is troubled by events from his childhood. The Breckwood boys (Merlin, Aren, Galen, and Caithelden) and Veronica grew up together along with Derrick Trask. Derrick and Caith were kidnapped one day and held for ransom (Caith’s father is very rich). Unfortunately, Derrick ended up getting killed trying to save Caith. Caith has not spoken with his father in twelve years because he did not keep his promise. Before Caith left for college, Veronica and Caith had a magical night by the lake. But several weeks later he wrote Veronica a letter breaking her heart. Now the two of them are going to be working together at the lodge to figure out who is sabotaging it. Do Veronica and Caith still have feelings for each other? Caith brings his son, Derrick with him. Derrick is thrilled be surrounded by his family and to finally meet his grandfather. Can Caith overcome his past so he can have a future? Who is sabotaging the lodge and why? Myth and Magic is a good mystery, but it contains a lot of romance (and sex scenes). Myth and Magic is just not what I expected from the original description. I thought it was more of a paranormal mystery, and it turned out to be a mystery romance book. I give Myth and Magic 3 out of 5 stars. The mystery was complex and involved an unexpected character. I received a complimentary copy of Myth and Magic from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The review and opinions expressed are my own.

If you like romantic suspense, and a little myth and magic, this book delivers. It held my attention from beginning to end. Kudos to Ms. Clair on an exceptionally well-written story. I loved it.

    Romantic Suspense - NOT Paranormal

Okay, so I normally try to stay as far as I can away from spoilering a book; unless its something big that happens in the first couple chapters. But I really feel that this is something that needs to be said. I saw this book cover, read the title and then the blurb and thought Paranormal Romance. Bring it On! Um, yeah, not so much. This is a Romantic Suspense; especially as there is no real paranormal activity. That's right, those "ghostly apparitions" in the blurb will all be explained away. I'm still a bit perturbed that it wasn't the genre I thought it was. Having said that, it was an excellent Romantic Suspense. I remember thinking at about the 53% mark that I totally knew who the bad guy was. Yeah, not so much. The author managed to completely twist things just enough that I was caught as shocked as Caith and Ron (Veronica) were. And didn't that cause my mouth to drop open in shock and awe! It is rare that I am completely blindsided by an author's tricksy clues and red herrings. Although I shouldn't be surprised, it's words like Myth, Magic, and Monsters that led to my mistaken identity of the book's genre. So of course she managed to slide the bad guys right by me, like a magician setting up the big finale. Hmmpf. Needless to say, if you are a fan of really good Romantic Suspense novels, you should check this one out. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and it had a nice mix of action and dialogue. The plot kept a nice pace, moving me inextricably along it's path of duplicity to the wrong conclusions. (Tricksy author!) I gave this book 4 stars and am adding the author as one to watch for. Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington and Goddess Fish for the opportunity to read and review the book.

    Great read

Love this book for much more than just the whole story. Because i grew up with all the same stories these brothers grew up hearing from their mother. So it made me love this book ever more because I knew the history behind most of it.
