    When Bad Neighbors Go Evil

So how's your neighborhood? Do you get along with your neighbors? Are they friendly? You may think your neighborhood is not the best, but I suspect it's nothing like the one Derek and this wife Toni live in. The problem isn't the loud parties or the fireworks after midnight or the football bouncing off the roof of Derek's car. The community (that's right, more than one) of ghosts haunting Derek's house aren't so bad either. The ghosts might be the good guys. The real problem is the ancient oak tree out in Derek's front yard. The Native Americans consider it a fount of fertility. Some of the older neighbors are dying off suspiciously. Young people are moving in. They're not so friendly to Derek and the wives are getting pregnant. Derek is convinced there's something sinister going on, that the neighbors are after his house, his tree. He finds evidence of orgies and devil worship. Or does he? Derek has a history of paranoia and depression. His wife doesn't believe him. Derek doesn't believe himself half the time. There's a storm brewing and time is running out for Derek and his wife. I read through Neighborhood Watch avidly. It's fast paced, suspenseful, and creepy. West keeps us guessing about Derek's sanity, a classic unreliable narrator but very likable. After riding Derek's horrific roller coaster, you'll never think of your neighborhood in quite the same way.
