An insight into a part of Japan I didn't know existed

I dtumnlked upon this book on KOBO by simply searching the key word 'Japan '. I teach Japanese and have a keen interest in the language and culture. I was also after a true story book as had read a few repetitive mystery type books in a row. This book was EXACTLY what I wanted. I had never heard of the Henro Michi before despite living in Japan for a year at age 20 and another year at age 26. The story of the pilgrimage fascinated me as did Lisa's amazing journey attempting what I know I' d never have the mental or physical stamina for. The book was both culturally educational and really inspiring. Have recommended as a must read to all my senior high school Japanese students.
