    Thanks for your feedback!

Promising idea but some awkward writing

The basic premise of the story -- human discovers alien who is hoping to save Earth from a threat discovered by advanced knowledge of chaos theory -- is intriguing and handled well. Don't worry, no equations. But I had real problems with how John, the main character, is drawn. He wavers from focussed and very intelligent to brutish and bone stupid for no obvious reasons -- or, rather, to keep the story going. Twice I stopped reading because John had done something bizarrely stupid. He keeps stepping out of character. And there's a somewhat hackneyed love interest that the author doesn't really weave into the story. It's interesting enough that I bought the sequel, but not with any great enthusiasm.

    Poor flow and frustrating end

Well, I just managed to get through it but found myself skipping as much as I could get away with. It was difficult to read and didn't flow easily for me and as I basically read to relax, this book didn't provide what I want. On top of that, I hate "endings" that say "find out what happened in the next installment"... a selfish approach that shows the author is more interested in what is in it for them than sharing an experience with the reader. I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANY MORE OF HIS BOOKS!!

    Addictive

I just couldn't put this series down, and it all starts with Neptune Crossing! A great story filled with wonderful characters. Carver is becoming one of my favorite authors.
