    An entertaining Regency Romp

An escape from St. Helena is being planned for Bonaparte, and the Black Fox narrowly escapes with the map indicating the route the general will take... Who is the Black Fox? Until nine months ago, the world thought Cade Cavendish dead, but he is alive and well and living in Mayfair with his identical twin brother Rafe. Cade is the black sheep of the family, nobody really knows how he earns his living. He is also a bit of a rogue. Danielle LaCrosse desperately needs the position as lady’s maid to Lady Cavendish, Rafe’s wife. Danielle is a bit out of her element, but she’s resourceful, and she’ll do what it takes: she needs the money to pay for her mother’s medical bills. Danielle is startled by the handsomeness of Rafe, and more than pleasantly surprised that his brother Cade is just as easy on the eye, and unmarried. Danielle’s new job might have some unexpected perks, after all, and Rafe is quite taken with the new lady’s maid. NEVER TRUST A PIRATE is Valerie Bowman’s latest instalment in the Playful Brides series, and while past events play a part in the narrative, the author briefly and clearly recaps what has happened previously, and new readers will be able to easily hop along. There are many spies in Rafe’s home, but who is really a spy, and who is spying on whom? Most of NEVER TRUST A PIRATE proceeds at a comfortable pace, after a breathtaking and exciting opening. I must confess that I was expecting that more emphasis would be put on the spying, or done differently maybe, or I was thought there would be more action. A large chunk of the narrative consists of life in a posh Regency household, while Danielle gets accustomed to her new duties. While everyday historical details are a bit shaky, it is enjoyable nonetheless. I was a bit worried when the blurb mentioned a case of mistaken identity, but this is dealt with speedily and efficiently by the author, and in a rather amusing way. Danielle is an intriguing character, with many facets, and for once she wasn’t endlessly blushing. I really liked Cade as well until I felt he became a tad too pushy and insistent. The sex scenes are well done, however I was not crazy about the circumstances under which the first one occurred. The action sequences are terrific, and I would have liked more of them, before the explosive ending. Ms. Bowman’s descriptive style shines, as always, the dialogues are delicious, as is the flirtatious banter between Danielle and Cade is delectable. All in all, NEVER TRUST A PIRATE is an entertaining Regency romp! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

    Love it!

Never Trust A Pirate by Valerie Bowman is a fantastic historical romance. Ms Bowman has given us a well-written book loaded with unique but lovable characters. Danielle and Cade's story is full of secrets, everyone has them. There's also plenty of drama, action, humor and spice to keep readers engaged in this wonderful story. I loved this book and look forward to reading more from Valerie Bowman in the future. Never Trust A Pirate is book 7 of the Playful Brides Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.

Get ready to LOVE a Pirate!

Cade Cavendish left home as a boy and made his way in the world with hard work, albeit mostly on the wrong side of the law. Since he reunited with his twin brother, a newly minted Viscount, he’s been working toward only one goal. Find the man who ordered his brother tortured and an Earl killed. Danielle LeCrosse wants to take care of her dying mother in a small cottage by the sea after finding the man who killed her father. She’s worked unofficially for years as a young spy for England. Her latest assignment places her as a ladies maid to the new Countess, Cade’s sister-in-law, Daphne. The reason behind the mission? Spy on Cade Cavendish. The pair are taken with each other upon their very first strange meeting. Both have suspicious natures when it comes to life, but affairs of the heart have them falling hopelessly in love just like the other lovers of the Playful Brides series. This was actually the first book of Bowman’s that I’ve read. I was so intrigued with her writing and the world of characters she developed, I have now read the rest of the series. That’s six additional novels and a novella. Each book was charming and delightful in it’s own way. I loved this novel for many reasons, one large one being it made me love pirates! I’d never been truly enamored with the idea of men pillaging at sea, but Cade’s story tugged hard at my strong heartstrings. I can’t even imagine the process Bowman has gone through to create so many different characters, with complex backstories and adventures waiting to be had. Now that I’ve read the other novels, I realize there were clues peppered in about Cade from his very first appearance in the series. I loved the ultimate twist Bowman throws that caught me completely of guard. Never Trust a Pirate is an adventure in romance and intrigue on land and by sea. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading the rest of the series for all historical romance lovers. There are more characters that have yet to find their true love, so I hope Bowman has a few more playful brides to write about in this fantastic series! I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

    Love those Pirates.

First let me say I love Valerie's books. I've read all of them. That said let me tell you a little about the book. This is he 7 th book in the Playful Brides. It goes back a few in the series to continue the story of the cavendish's. The book has twists and turns you don't expect with a nice love story mixed in. Valorie has made strong female characters in these books that I find very refreshing. I've enjoyed all the books in the series. They are fun and entertaining. You can read this book lone but you would be missing out on a great series of books if you don't go back and read them all when you finished this one.

    Delightful story

Valerie Bowman' s characters are a delightful bunch to follow. I really enjoy their wit and banter they share with each other. I enjoy reading her series of books because I know that some of her characters will reappear. I can't wait for her next release.
