    Thanks for your feedback!

    Tess and Shade were great!

I must say that I ended up enjoying this book quite a bit. It did take me a while to really get into the story but once I did I had a lot of fun with it. I was really eager to read this book since I really liked her books from the Kingmaker Chronicles trilogy. This is the first book in a brand new series that blends science fiction with romance and I think it worked really well. Tess Bailey and her crew start out this story in a bit of trouble. They have a stolen lab attached to their ship and are about to be caught. They take a chance on a risky maneuver to escape and then need to put the pieces back together. Their ship needs a lot of work and they are wanted by the authorities. Tess runs into Shade who happens to have the skills to put her ship back together. I did like the characters in this story quite a bit. Tess was a bit of a mystery especially as the story started but I liked her more an more as we learned more about her past. She considers her crew to be her best friends but she has kept her past hidden from even them. Tess was smart, loyal, and kind, but unsure when it came to Shade. Shade has been through some things and has made some big mistakes. I must say that I liked him right away. He seemed incredibly confident and observant. He does have a pretty big conflict of interest to contend with and I did enjoy getting the chance to peer into his head as he tried to figure out what he wanted to do. I really did like Shade and Tess together even though it seemed to take a long time for things to start happening. I thought that they had great chemistry and their personalities seemed to mesh very nicely together. I really enjoyed the fact that they had some rather heartwarming scenes, some steamy scenes, some were filled with humor, and some with action. No matter what kind of scene they were in, it seemed that their characters just made it better because they were working together. I also really liked seeing the relationships that Tess had with her crew, who were really more like her family than anything. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance blended with some lighter science fiction. I think that this book is a solid first entry in what I expect will be an exciting series. I cannot wait to read more from Amanda Bouchet! I received a digital review copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via Edelweiss.

    4.5 stars: Awesome action-packed Sci-fi Romance.

I have dabbled in the Sci-fi genre a couple of times and enjoyed it. When I saw that Amanda Bouchet, who wrote the amazing Fantasy trilogy The Kingmaker Chronicles, was writing a Sci-fi Romance novel, I just knew I had to read it. The reason I don't read a lot of Sci-fi is because of the complex word-building. Sometimes authors just go into too much detail, and I get confused and bored. However, that was definitely NOT the case with Nightchaser. The author did such an incredible job in giving very precise and easy to understand information about the world the story was set in. She didn't go in to unnecessary details, but the information she did hand out was spread evenly throughout story. Which I appreciated a lot. As a predominantly Romance reader, I was happy to see that the author took her time to have the main characters connect and develop a bond. Also the dual POV was great and made it so much easier for me to connect to the characters and their relationship. Captain Tess Bailey is strong, loyal, caring and a fighter. Amanda writes the best heroines, and Tess is one I love and am intrigued by. Shade Ganavan is also great, I had my doubts about him but thankfully he didn't disappoint. Nightchaser is an awesome action-packed Sci-fi Romance. There were a couple of scenes that had me on the edge of my seat and in tears. I am pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book and characters. There were a couple of twists towards the end that made me excited to see what will happen next. I highly recommend any Romance reader to give this book/genre a try, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

    Fantastic!

What a fantastic read! Amanda Bouchet is quite the story teller and I loved this futuristic space world she has created! Tess, the female lead was so fierce and brave. She has such a sense of right no matter the consequences. She's a true rebel at heart. The mystery surrounding her has me anxious to find out more about her and what she can do. Shade is just plain awesome. He struggles with a huge decision in this first book and he fights his attraction to Tess. That didn't stop him from protecting her from the first moment he layed eyes on her. He is going to make for a great hero in this series. The suspense around Tess and her crew's fight for survival had me at the edge of my seat. The side characters were great and brought more to the story. This was a fun book to read. It doesn't end on a huge cliffhanger but it does set up the story for the next phase. I will be anxiously waiting for book two.

    Didn't work for me

Tessa Bailey leads a motley crew of escaped criminals as they Robin Hood their way around the galaxy. While on a stopover to repair their ship, Tess meets Shade Ganavan and is now confronted with falling for someone while keeping her true identity a secret. I have very mixed feelings about Nightchaser and I'm sad that I didn't like this one more because on paper it had everything I love in a science fiction romance. Unfortunately, the action packed beginning soon faded into the day-to-day of Tessa and Shade and it wasn't until the last quarter that the action picked up again. I found the whole middle portion too slow and I had to put this down and come back to it several times. Part of my problem with Nightchaser is that there were so many similar elements to Amanda Bouchet's other book A Promise of Fire. From the feisty heroine on the run to her tragic past at the hands of an evil parent, I couldn't help but find connection after connection and this really affected my enjoyment of the book. There were also some events at the end that were miraculously solved by outside interference and this was something in Bouchet's previous books that I never liked. While I did like certain parts about Shade and Tess there were also some parts I struggled with. Tess was energetic and sweetly naive but she also has to be one of the worst criminals trying to hide ever. She knows the Dark Watch is after her for stealing their vaccine lab and yet she continually goes out in public, including a date to the beach. However, I did like her honor and her dedication to helping others who can't help themselves. Shade was also an interesting hero but it was very odd that his point of view was written in third person while Tess's was written in first person. I also felt like some of Shade's decisions didn't make sense considering the short amount of time he's known Tess (vague I know, but I don't want to give anything away). Overall, I found myself working to finish Nightchaser and that's never an ideal feeling to have while reading. There were several events that I didn't see coming and I appreciate those surprises but as a whole this just didn't work for me.
