  • Benjamin and Emilia

This one really hit the spot for me. Benjamin was sweet, kind, and adoring of his new wife. It took me a bit to like Emilia. I found her to be shallow and unkind but the further along I went in the story the more I realized she was letting her fear drive her. She realizes it too as the truth, not her assumptions, about Benjamin sink in. She’s the product of her status and environment. She also has an intelligent mind and desire to be her own person, not just someone’s daughter or wife. I liked that Emilia encourages Benjamin to voice his own thoughts and opinions and to see them as having value. His treatment of the Duke of Marrow was a shining example of how genuinely kind and thoughtful he was.

    Thanks for your feedback!
