Review: Breakaway 4: Off The Ice

Off The Ice by L.P. Dover is the fourth book in her Breakaway series. A surprisingly emotional series of wonderful and unique men and women intertwined in the fictional Charlotte Strikers NHL team. This is the story of Justin Davis and of a new to us character, Meghan Taylor. After a grueling 12 months pretending to be with his on-screen Fiancée, Justin is done. He needs to take a break. Hockey season is over, the Stanley Cup is won, and he is heading to his newly purchased ranch in Wyoming. What he least expects on his incognito getaway is a beautiful next-door neighbor that is taking his fame in stride. Meghan is back home for the summer. Her daughter still with her parents in Nags Head. The reason for the separation, much needed work to do on the ranch. What Meghan doesn't expect is a super hot and super famous next door neighbor that is doing everything he can to help her and spend time with her with no expectations in return. The backstories are touching, the transformations of the characters are heartwarming, and the glimpse of some of the past series characters is precious. I really enjoyed this book in the series. Enjoy!

    A good story

L.P.Dover is a new author to me and I have absolutely no idea why that is, particularly since I adore hockey stories. I had no trouble reading Off The Ice as a stand alone. Now that I have found her I will be sure to go back and read other books as and when time permits. Justin Davis is a player for the Charlotte Strikers. After stepping in and replacing his brother in law on the television show Rich and Single, he is finally free of the nightmare commitment he had to his fake fiance. After scoring the winning goal which led to a Stanley Cup win, Justin is off to a remote cabin in Wyoming for some rest and relaxation. That is until his neighbour Meghan Taylor needs help on her ranch and he offers his assistance. Meghan and her daughter have struggled for 8 years since the death of her husband and the ranch is badly in need of repairs. When Justin offers his assistance the attraction is there but can he get Meghan to see the man who lies beneath the surface? Will Meghan take a chance of finding happiness or will the pressures of the outside world and Justin's career prove to be too much? Justin is totally swoon worthy and I fell for his hard and fast, there is so much more to him that meets the eye. I admire Meghan’s strength and determination to carry on the ranch. These two are meant to be together and I really cheered for them to get their happily ever after. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

    Amazaballs

Justin has a lot of baggage. He has made some bad choices. Meghan is a single mother with her own baggage. They make for a fun easy going couple. But there not sure where hey fit into each other’s lives. Loved this series. This was my favorite book out of the series. Could not wait to see where the story would go.

This story gives hope in an impossible situation!

This was a fun, sweet romance that really hits you in the feelings! I love sports romance, and this whole series has been great! This book, unlike a lot of sports romance, doesn't throw out a lot of technical terms, trying to impress the reader with their sports knowledge. It focuses more on the romance between the characters, one of whom just happens to be a hot shot hockey player! Justin is in hot water! His life has skidded off the rails, and he has to lay low for a while! He decides to spend some time at his ranch, in Wyoming. He loves his life, but just wants to be himself for a while. On the way to the ranch, he meets Meghan, who treats him like a normal person, befriending him, but still keeping him at arms length. Meghan has a good life, but she has fought hard for her happiness. Getting involved with someone like Justin, who drama seems to follow, doesn't seem like a good idea. I loved this story. The connection between Justin and Meghan was magical, even when it seemed hopeless, and that they'd never be able to be more than friends. Even with all of the crazy in this story (and maybe because of it!) this story was a fun read, and fits in wonderfully with the other books in the series. I'd definitely recommend this story (as well as all the others) if you want a something that is going to make you smile! This is definitely that book!

    Awesome

OFF THE ICE was such a cute read. It was very heartwarming and sad at the same time. The characters are very likable and actually very down to earth. Justin, while having issues from the previous book that did slightly make him seem a bit of butthead, really surprised me in this book. He was very aware of his faults and wanted to change, but he acknowledged that some things are not changeable. But boy does he have his work cut out for him. Meghan is such a sweet and loving character. She doesn’t assume anything and lets things fall as they should. But, she has a tendency to see issues that are not there. Instead of trying to work through them, she finds another way to make them more important than they are. But she also has realizations about herself and her situations, so it all works. Overall, I really liked the story and the characters. There were some slow parts, but it didn’t take away from the overall storyline. A nice read with some drama and one really big hit by karma. Totally rocked!
