    THE PERFECT BOOK!!!!

I have finally read the perfect book! The Outlaw King by Julie Johnstone is the 1st book in the Renegade Scots series and I am holding my breath for book #2. This amazing story of Robert the Bruce and his 2nd wife Elizabeth takes you on an adventure like no other. I can’t even begin to imagine how much research Julie had to do to write this story. There are so many true characters, places and events that reading this book not only gave me a romance but a history lesson as well. Julie is truly one of the great writers of our time and this story is pure genius! This story comes alive in the 1300s when King Edward of England is trying to rule Scotland and all Scotland wants is to be free. Yes, William Wallace is also in this book. This story has evil, deceit, blackmail, love at first sight, trust, lies, prisoners, banishment, kindness, friendships, loyalties, honor, a coming war, cruelty, dishonor, enemies, escape, abuse, attempted rape, innocence and yes, even love. This is a must read story and I highly recommend you read this book. It is defiantly a page turner. ***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

    Hot romance

Outlaw King is the story of Robert the Bruce’s fight to save Scotland from the English King Edward. Though this tale has truth woven into it, it is a work of fiction. I loved every heart stopping minute of it. Elizabeth and Robert’s characters sprang to life and held my attention. A fantastic tale of page turning romance, murderous intrigue and betrayal. I can’t wait to read the next in the series - Renegade Scot.

    An amazing story!

LOVED IT! History and fiction mix to create a powerful romance where love and danger intertwine and keep the reader hooked all the way to the end. I can’t wait to read the next book of the series! Julie Johnstone never disappoints! Enjoy!

    Lots To Enjoy

Robert the Bruce is a man torn between his love for Scotland and the lives that he must protect. He can't afford to let himself feel, or he will weaken. The burden he carries is terrifying. The last thing he needs is to be attracted to the woman deliberately set in front of him by his enemies. Elizabeth du Burgh has discovered just how ruthless her father is. He will use anything and anyone to get the power he wants. King Edward is her Godfather and a cunning and devious man who controls the lives of all around him. Elizabeth has been ordered to use all her feminine wiles to bring information to her father. Some parts of her assignment will be very pleasing, but soul destroying as well. This is a huge fat book with lots of time to get fully involved in the lives of two of the most important characters in Scotland's history. Naturally there is a lot of political intrigue and emotional upheaval. There is also a fabulous love story that is so easy to believe. I loved every page.

    An Amazing Story

296 Northern Scotland. As this book started, I had no warning of the emotions that would come through as I turned each page. Robert the Bruce and his fated love Elizabeth de Burgh come to life through the pages of this amazing story of the fight for Scottish freedom over the English. As rightful heir to the Scottish throne, Robert is forced to make some hard decisions that bring him so close to death. In feigning loyalty to the English King Edward, he is walking a slippery slope to free his people. He is brought together with Elizabeth, who is the goddaughter of the king and who has been made a pawn to entrap him. This amazing tale filled with lies, deceit, gut wrenching suspense and extraordinary love will take you away to another time and place and capture your heart. I have to admit I wanted to do real harm to King Edward and Elizabeth's father as they controlled her and Robert. Julie Johnstone has truly outdone herself with this extraordinary story that I feel bereft that it is over but can only hope her next book in the Renegade Scots series will be published soon!! I would give this 10 stars if I could.
