A well written, entertaining, and sweet love story

Favorite Quotes: “Sylvia only visited when she wanted something. That something was usually me.” “Or was I simply the funny guy next door; the proverbial stray cat, the one she feels sorry for and feeds?” “Think of me like a cell phone – you didn’t know you wanted one, but once you got used to having it around, you wondered how you ever did without one.” “And we’re only gonna get better Chefgirl. You know, practice makes perfect. And I’m all for perfect.” “I’ve never been loved before… by anyone. I’m not giving you up because things might be difficult. Life is difficult.” “Now that you have shared this information with me, you and your ninja-sperm filled penis are never coming anywhere near me again.” My Review: Over the Fence is a sweet and moving love story that I didn’t want to end. I adored the characters and the unique and heart-felt story line. The main characters are solitary beings who are lonely, broken, and internally and externally scarred by their own families. Kourtney – with a K, experienced a childhood of neglect and physical and emotional abuse, and although timid and insecure, she somehow managed to maintain a kind and thoughtful soul. Nathan also had a painful past, and although we are to be tantalized by the knowledge that he is tortured by his regrets, we not given the full accounting of what his past actually entailed until late in the book. Written mainly from Nathan’s POV, the narrative is smart, insightful, entertaining, well-paced, easy to follow, somewhat steamy, and full of witty banter. I enjoyed their humorous and fun exchanges as they slowly became acquainted during their evening conversations and shared dinners, each on different sides of a tall fence, and without ever actually seeing each other face-to-face. Their stories squeezed my heart and I reveled in the development of their relationship and the care they took in and for each other as they were both so vulnerable. I enjoyed the book beginning to end, but my favorite part would be their witty texting. This was my first time reading Ms. Moreland, but I have big plans to fan-girl and stalk her listings in the future.

    Excellent!!

In a world where looks are so important and often impact our first impressions, Over the Fence is a refreshing change of pace. Nathan and Kourtney come to know and care for each other before ever laying eyes on the other even though they live just feet, even inches, apart. That alone had my heart won over but as you continue reading you begin to wish you had a fence in your own life once in a while, because the fence might not be so much of keeping the world out but giving you the freedom to let the person within the space to shine. When that speaks true for both Nathan and Kourtney then maybe they will find that piece of themselves they never knew was missing. I can honestly say that there isn't a rating scale out there that goes high enough to fully express just how much I love and recommend this book or the author. If you have not read Melanie Moreland before, this is a great one to start with because the powerful emotions Over the Fence invoke will knock you on your ass in all the best ways imaginable.

    Let the sock fetish begin

**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book** What a cute little book! 2 people both trying to survive in a world that has shown them no kindness. Both have pasts that cause them to fear any kind of attachment. Is it possible to fall in love with someone you've never seen? Nathan lives the solitary bachelor life. Only going to work and back home his life has become a routine, with the occasional hook-up here and there. He's content to keep to himself, until his new neighbor starts cooking some delicious groan-worthy food. It all started with dinner... Kourtney has only ever known hatred. Her life growing up she was belittle and put down, beat up by her brother, and bullied by the kids as school. She's made herself comfortable and as happy as an introvert can be. Feeding her neighbor after his compliments on her cooking was a rash decision, but one she couldn't bring herself to regret. "What do you want?" "To belong to each other." When circumstances force a meeting between the two neighbors, there's no going back for Nathan. He'll do whatever it takes to show his little 'chefgirl' that she's loved and belongs. But he's got to make sure she can handle his past as well, because there are secrets he's never told anyone.
