One Of My Favourite Fantasy Stories

The film PAN'S LABYRINTH completely captivated me and it is one of my favourite films of all time. So when I learned that an illustrated book was being published, I could barely contain my excitement. It didn't just meet my expectations--it surpassed them with flying colours. The story is a mirror of the film, but the writing style is stunning, especially if you read fairytales as a child (or an adult!). In some ways, it was deeper than the film since there was internal dialogue and more information about the characters. I've always loved Mercedes and Ofelia and feared Vidal, and this book just amplifies their traits tenfold, and even add some details about some side characters. The illustrations are gorgeous and the design of the book is just so unique and elegant. This is one of the most beautiful books I own. I really cannot praise this book enough. It was worth every cent I paid. It is one of the most beautiful, tragic stories ever told and deserves to be on the shelf of every fantasy, fairy tale, and folklore lover. Read it if you have seen the film, read it if you haven't. This is easily one of my favourite books and I cannot recommend it enough.
