    A great love story

This book made me happy, be sad, cry, and then be happy again. It was heart-rending (if that is a word). The story isn't just between the hero and heroine, it also closely involves the hero's family. They have a genetic disease that affects each of them differently. The hero's sister is the most affected. At the start of the book, the heroine comes to their home as a live-in therapist for the sister, who has withdrawn from interacting with the world. The heroine is able to get her attention as no one else has in recent months. The hero is afraid to trust her, to trust that she will stay and help his sister, that she can do any more to help. In fact, the hero is pretty withdrawn from everything, too. There is an attraction between them, but he keeps sabotaging any chance for a relationship. The heroine has been working with elderly stroke victims before, so she was hoping for a chance to work with someone who wouldn't ultimately die. She really needs a chance for happiness, but isn't getting it with the constant conflict with the hero. Ultimately, she takes strong action to save her heart, while still helping the sister. The hero's loneliness, as well as input from his mother and sister, makes him finally take a chance on opening up. Thankfully, we get a happy ever after. The writing is so emotionally evocative that I was totally drawn in to the story. The characters were each able to draw me to like them in their own way. I strongly recommend this book.
