‘Revenge’ is a dish best served...

Perky is the second in a new series of (inter-connected) standalones by Julia Kent. First came Fluffy and all that was Mallory and Will in their hugely entertaining story. If you haven’t had the privilege, do yourself a favor and read it first, even though it’s not necessary, but your missing out, plus it does kinda lead into this one. Anyway, back to Perky. This is Mallory’s best friend, Persephone a.k.a Perky’s story. We met Perky in Fluffy, and she was cool and interesting. Maybe a little wild? Here we get the backstory of why she came back home five years ago. Her then-boyfriend, Parker took a picture of her in a compromising position, and even though she agreed to it, she didn’t okay him posting all over the internet. Needless to say, she and Parker were very much NOT an item after that. Parker denied culpability and kept on denying for five long years until the meetup and Mal and Will’s wedding rehearsal. Parker tries once more to apologize and Perky is having none of it, all she can think about is having her revenge on him. And it wouldn’t be hard work. The man is the Da Vinci’s ‘David’ of U.S Congressmen. He’s hot, sexy and still makes her lust for him. Perky’s problem, even though she hates him, she’s still totally in love with him too. But, revenge, whether served hot or cold, is never sweet in the end and while getting close, then repeatedly pushing him away, Perky finally hits rock bottom. She’s surrounded by good friends, a loving family. Parker just has his mom and an ex-girlfriend turned journalist who follows his every move and tries to dictate his protocol. But, if Parker didn’t do it, and Perky sure didn’t, who is the real culprit that has caused them, two tempestuous lovers, to be separated for five years? And is it too late for them to make things right? This was a funny, somewhat angsty and teeth-clenching, sweet, awesome story. A slow-burning, second chance/ near enemies to lovers tale of twisted lies and machinations behind the scenes. The build-up to the final chapters was fast-paced and well thought out. I truly enjoyed every moment of this book and now I’m left waiting for Feisty’s story.

Parker and Perky.... Two people that probably couldn't be more different or more perfect for each other. The protesting activist and the DA who was assigned to prosecute her. It's like a crazy version of Romeo and Juliet. Their relationship should never have worked but the more glimpses into their past and interactions they had, the more I was convinced that there was nothing that could stand in the way of these two. Obviously, this book is hilarious. JK never fails to deliver on the hilarity. But this book also hit me in the feels. A lot!! My heart broke for Parker and Persephone but I loved how they were able to come back together and rebuild. Second chances are my absolute favorite and this one is amazing!!!

    So Good

5 star review Perky by Julia Kent    Julia Kent never fails to deliver; whenever I see her name I know that I am in for a fabulous read. As with previous books I have read I was in stitches having laughed so much I cried. That’s right, not only laughing but snort laughing, totally unattractive I assure you and the looks I got from my fellow commuters just made me laugh even harder. Julia Kent is one of my go to authors in the romantic comedy genre. There is just something about her style of writing that draws me in and I devour her books.   I absolutely loved the premise for Persephone’s (Perky) story. Perky was everything that I hoped it would be and so much more. Perhaps because Ms. Kent has such an ability to write about characters who are human, engaging and realistic that you cannot help but be drawn in to the story she weaves. Betrayed years before by Parker, the man she loved, Perky is determined to seek her revenge. After all he pursued her for months after she dumped him after his betrayal. I I so felt for Perky and the embarrassment and humiliation she has been made to live with over the last 5 years and I totally understand her need for revenge. Although a hilarious read it is also a story of a second chance at love, of taking a leap of faith. The secondary characters were an absolute hoot and it was great to catch up with Will and Mallory. Reconnecting at the rehearsal dinner Parker still maintains his innocence and he still has feelings for Perky. Unfortunately Perky’s head is set on revenge but her body and heart are still drawn to Parker. Which will win out head or heart? I fell hard and fast for Parker, he ticked all my boxes and was totally swoon worthy.   This is a gem of a book and in my humble opinion Ms.Kent has another winner on her hands.

    Completely Heart-Wrenching and Captivating

Perky is a hilariously addictive thrill ride of the heart. Just when you think you have things figured out, here comes another twist in our lovely story that throws things into disarray. I savored every minute of watching these characters come to terms with their real feelings while being a helping hand and open heart for each other. Nothing is as powerful or as beautiful as a true friend. However, in the end, the only person who can truly pick out the solemn truth about our circumstances is our own heart. As we grapple with our feelings and how to live with them, we must remember to see the world around us through our heart. No matter how painful the truth is to see sometimes, it is our own only saving grace. Perky has never truly forgotten or given up on her past. She won’t say his name outright, but her heart whispers throughout each day for the one she longs for with every fiber of her being. No matter the horrible circumstances that tore them apart nothing is truly irrevocable when it comes to the inner workings of the heart. Their bond is one that you don’t find often let alone in one good lifetime, so when Fate throws them together, Perky is left reeling. She must remain true to her heart, but what if it has always betrayed her? What if it lives within with him which would explain why she has felt so empty and lost for the past five years. Can she move on in order to erase the paralyzing pain and emptiness that constantly surrounds her, or will she find that giving in to her heart’s desires is her only saving grace? I was truly amazed and hypnotized by the incredible connection that Perky and Parker have even five horrible years later. The heart know what it wants whether we choose to listen to it or ignore its every prompting. There is nothing more breathtaking then watching two soulmates and best friends find each other and reach for the love they so desperate need and want. This story ripped my heart out and yet left me with a deafening hope that I was not able to walk away unchanged. These two will always live within my heart as a incontrovertible example of how love and the heart will always lead us to where we need to be if we will only hand the reigns over. Julie Kent has done it again! She has created an incredible story that will delight and entertain and teach so much if we will only listen and feel. We can only live life once, so why not live it to the fullest which is why Perky is such a wonderful story. What we find within these pages is the strength and the courage to live life the way it was meant to be lived with hope, love, and faith. This is an unspeakable and stunning gift that will never get old or fade into the sands of time. It will remain in the forefront of your heart and soul every day as long as we breath the air around us. That is a legacy that we can only hope for
