A sport romance that hit it out of the park

I really like Lani Lynn Vale’s books especially since I can get a new one in every moth but her phenomenal characters and intense, fast paced stories sell themselves anyway. So you can picture my glee when I found out that in September there are going to be not one but two new releases. I was pretty stoked. So this story is sport romance, which is a new area for the author. Usually she works with everyday heroes or various military personas so I was really excited how she will do with the famous athlete card. It was a pretty good start with sport romance but not the best I ever read. However my problem with the story wasn’t really the sport part but more like the lack of excitement in it. The premise of the book is pretty interesting especially since I love the whole woman trying to get her footing in a male dominated world, which Sway being an athletic trainer for a pro baseball team, fits the profile. This part of the story I absolutely loved and I liked the characters quite well too but the story overall was just mediocre for me. I don’t exactly know why but I didn’t love it. First of all, things start out quite fast and smooth which I liked. The whole relationship parts forms so easily and effortlessly that it’s a delight to read, sometimes I just need an easy romance without struggles and extra drama to it. The chemistry is pretty great there and I really like how the whole professional sport world is presented but there are thing in the story which are quite out of place. One of those things was the whole balck-ops mission element, which is not just unbelievable but really unrealistic as well. I also wasn’t quite satisfied the way how the other conflict point, alas the whole coworker conflict is handled, it’s too low key compared to the buildup it gets. Sway is a honest, hard working, vibrant, caring and easy to like character. Maybe she is a bit inexperienced when it comes to relationships but she is a quick learner. The only thing that I didn’t like about her is body image issues, namely the amount of time she spends obsessing with others opinion about her body. In my opinion if you like your body and comfortable in it then you don’t care this much what others think. Hancock knows what he wants and goes in full force to get it. He is quite rude and ill-mannered when you get on his wrong side and you definitely don’t want to mess with his superstitions. He has a strong bond with his family and a heavy attraction towards Sway. They are really great and cute together; they don’t struggle when it comes to everyday life in a relationship and get into a routine easily. I really liked the secondary characters too. Another thing why I love Lani Lynn Vale’s books is because of the phenomenal families and bonds she creates which leads to amazing and funny secondary characters. And I think I see a series coming about not just the other players in this story but about Hannibal and his team too. I wanted to love this book but the plot fell a little bit short for me in terms of intensity and action. Otherwise a great start to a new series and I’m really curious about the next books. P.S. I love epilogues but this story’s just disappointed me.

    Batter up!

I am such a huge fan of Lani Lynn Vale and the biggest reason is because her books make me laugh, and this one was no different. In this story we meet Sway Coffman who is the Head Athletic Trainer for The Texas Lumberjacks baseball team. She's very sweet and quirky and works hard at her job which doesn't see a lot of women in that profession and it is definitely made known by some of her other staff members. We also meet Hancock 'parts' Peters, baseball player, grumpy man with beard, hot shot player who doesn't like being a celebrity. Putting these two people in a room makes for hilarious and sexy times. With Hancock's baseball superstitions and Sway's wit, this is an easy read story with a lot of characters (both nice and not so nice) which make up Sway and Hancock's relationship. I particularly like that Sway talks to herself. Note there is a bit in the book that might be triggers for people due to the content and you definitely get to see some male posturing both on and off the field, but overall an enjoyable read!

Great start to a new series!

Great start to a new series! This book had it all! An amazing alpha dirty talking hero and a strong feisty heroine that comes off sweet and shy, but don’t let her fool you. Sway and Parts banter was awesome and a great source of entertainment. This book was funny, it was sweet, the characters had chemistry that was scorching! It was so captivating I couldn’t put it down. Hancock “Parts” Peters is a catcher for his professional baseball team and is known as short tempered, tattooed and one of the sexiest players in MLB! He doesn’t put up with anyone’s crap and he really doesn’t put up with anyone disrespecting women. He is so swoon worthy! I loved his character! Sway is the head athletic trainer for Parts team. It is a job that she was very qualified for and she was good at her job. She was harassed because of her curvy body and not taken seriously by a few people. She was able to hold her own and with Parts on her side, she could do anything. I don’t want to give anything away as I want you to experience this terrific story for yourself. I absolutely loved the characters, storyline, humor and all the hot scenes between Parts and Sway. If you love sports romance, pick up this book! I promise you won’t regret it!

Such a different topic for Lani Lynn Vale

This is such a different type of story for Lani Lynn Vale. Well, the beard is still there (sigh… love a good beard) but the baseball theme is different for her. She has now proven she can write about anything and I will devour it. Pitch Please is Lani Lynn Vale branching out and hitting it out of the ballpark. Hancock is a baseball player with so many superstitions that when Sway, the teams athletic trainer, gets in his way he can’t help but make her part of his superstitious routine. I love Hancock. He is 100% alpha male and is not use to getting his way. Sway is someone he wants and he is willing to do what he has to be done to get her. It was fun watching them circle, come together, get in each other’s ways, and finally fall in love. Together Sway and Hancock make sense. They are perfect together and no matter what the “rules” or others say they have to be. There was humor, love, and holy heat! Pitch Please is the perfect romance with heat book. It isn’t clean, there is swearing, naughty scenes, and a lot of fun, but it is the perfect book for me. Thank you Enticing Journey Book Promotions for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
