  • an exceptional read

've read all the Selkie Moon series, and really enjoyed them (surprisingly as I didn't expect them to be my kind of novel - I'm more of a whodunnit / thriller reader) so I've been looking forward to reading this. I downloaded it, and saved it for when I needed something I knew would cheer me. I expected it to be good - most series improve with each instalment, but this was exceptional. My incipient, lurking anxiety as Selkie leaves Andrew, and the drip on drip of the coercive control he continues to extend was incredibly well written, and kept me up way too late. I tried to ration my reading to spread out the joy of such a well crafted story over a few days, but only managed to make the book last a couple. I do hope the next instalment comes soon; Selkie is such a well rounded character; she, her vulnerabilities and the supporting characters are very well observed. All in all, this was an exceptional read, well worth saving for when I needed a perk, and one I'd have been very happy to pay for - can't believe it's being given away for free.

  • Planting Pearls

I loved this book. It is creative, fun and entertaining, and I looked forward to each chapter. Ms King has the knack of making you care about Selke and her friends. With our world in turmoil, we are being urged to be kind to each other, and this book has tapped into this philosophy . When Selke bravely escapes her despicable husband and flies to Hawaii, the people she encounters treat her with great kindness and she reciprocates. I enjoyed this positivity very much. The well plotted narrative also takes you on a thrilling journey culminating in a satisfying conclusion. The so called "haunting" and other mysterious happenings are explained away... or are they?
