  • Poison or Protect

A delightful erotic read. If you like her other steampunk works and you don't mind characters who have consensual sexual relations, you'll probably love this book.

  • A side of Preshea unseen before

What a lovely story. Gail’s men are as diverse as can be imagined and this one is a treat to read. Preshea is developed as a character and she is all the more interesting for it. Lovely twists and side characters to complete the story. If you liked The Finishing School series but also enjoy some hot steamy love, this is for you.

  • Poorly done.

I have read other books by this author. This one isn't close to the quality of the others. I enjoyed the Parasol Protectorate series. It had good story lines and engaging characters that were well developed. I will be very careful purchasing any further works, if at all,in the future.

  • Very fun and steamy romance novella

This is a fun romance-meets-comedy of manners in a sorta-Steampunk setting that will be familiar to all who have read Gail Carriger's other work and easy to get into for those who haven't. The female lead, Preshea, is a side character in the author's YA series about the Finishing School. This novella, however, is definitely not YA - expect some steamy romance that doesn't stop at the bedroom door. I personally very much enjoyed it. (For added fun, if you like the setting and the writing and you happen to think of reading more by the same author, read this one before reading her novel Reticence, part 4 in another series - and see if that doesn't really add a whole extra layer to the first couple of chapters ;-) ) If you don't know the author at all, it's a fun (and short) starting point, but please be aware the different series vary wildly in how explicit (YA to pretty darn steamy) they are, when they are set, and whether the Romances are more or less traditional. They are, however, all set in the same universe and I personally have a lot of fun tracking certain (somewhat immortal, because paranormal) characters from book to book and series to series. If that's your kind of thing, enjoy! If it's not, don't worry, this can be read on its own merit just as well :)

  • Poison and Protect

Just as well it was free. It was so bad I would have be very annoyed if I'd paid good money for it.
