Oh, yes - it couldn't be better.

Absolutely wonderful. Clever, clever building of tension with the love interest. The ending blew me away!

    Exciting and fast read

Very well written and exciting story. An Amish family of seven is brutally and savagely murdered in their house on the outskirts of Painters Mill. Kate Burkholder, chief of police, is shocked at the violence and feels that the killer could not be Amish. The two teenage daughters, 14 and 16, are killed and mutilated in the barn. The medical examiner reveals that one daughter was pregnant. Kate has to called upon help from John Tomasetti from the state investigators' office to search for evidence, due to her small police force. Kate searches the pregnant daughter's room and finds a diary hidden in a slot in the floor. It reveals that she had fallen in love with a man outside the Amish faith and that she had become pregnant by him. Kate works too hard, drinks too much and never seems to sleep. Even though some of the subject matter was difficult to read, I enjoyed the story very much and look forward to the next.

    A well-done police procedural

"Pray for Silence", the second book in the Kate Burkholder series, keeps the reader's attention from beginning to end. An Amish family from Lancaster, Pennsylvania has moved to the Ohio town where Kate is the police chief. The horrific murder of the entire family, the parents and children aged 2 to 16, shocks the town and propels Kate and her officers into search for the killers. A very good read.

    5-star read

Thoroughly enjoy L. Castillo's Kate Burkholder series. Read the first one and got hooked. I'm on the 4th one now and just love reading these. I appreciate the way Castillo blends stories of Kate's ex-Amish life and how it weaves into her police work. You get an insight into Amish life, which I find fascinating, especially in our world. I hope Castillo continues to write until there’s nothing left to write about, but then, police work never ends!
