  • A no-holds-bar princessa & a freedom-loving prince

Arabella Royale is the heiress to the Royale hotel chain and referred to as Princess of Savannah. Beyond her family reputation, she earned her way into successful social influencer - beauty, makeup, clothing, and lifestyle. She is creative, confident, and chic that she had amassed quite a following (in the billions !) in a short time. She was also trained beyond her years to ensure she upholds the family name to a higher standard, so she acts mature for her age. She had good parents and examples around her to keep her grounded. There was no stopping her with offers to collaborate and endorse their products with her. Nothing was going to stop Arabella with her ride up to royalty...or so she thought. So when her politically ambitious long-time boyfriend, Parker, unexpectedly dumped out-of-the-blue. She did not cry or withered like a flower. Granted she was fuming inside, after being blind-sighted and belittled for her ineligibility to be with him, she instead channeled all her frustration and energy into moving on by helping to manage the Royale Resort in France! Grayson Matteo Cardona is the crowned prince of Andorra who is of "rightful age to marry" is hiding out at...you guessed it - at Royal Resort France (!) to avoid the Palace's scrutiny of finding a betrothed to keep his royal title and position. He escaped and hid from the world, armed with his trustworthy bodyguard, Finn...so where would a prince who wanted to disappear end up going to that would be able to keep his anonymity? None other than a Royal Resort in France, of course! It is my first time reading the author's work, and I was curious about the plot that I had to start as soon as it hit my Kindle. The book is a contemporary rom-com with an "in-your-face" fairytale starter quote that made me sit-up and laugh my head off. The story reminds me a bit of Grace Kelly of Monaco and her Prince Charming. In this case, it is a social media princess(a) that is captivating and taking the world - one product at a time. I like how the Grayson's POV starts readers off - and as what Prince Grayson of Andorra noted - it is their steamy love story! Also, coming into any book series makes me cautious with questions - if I would need to go back to the series or if I would be able to appreciate the characters whose backgrounds I missed out. I am happy to report that readers WILL NOT be lost coming mid-way through this series. The author was conscious of giving enough details of the past characters to appreciate them as secondary/supporting characters and let the main characters shine! Note: there are coarse languages and expressions throughout the book, but all were used appropriately and with much humor. I enjoyed a good banter and showed the character's real personality, but some readers may find this offensive but take heed and warned. The opening sentence should give readers an indication of the "no-apologies punch" that comes with the characters of Princess-ish. When Arabella and Grayson collided (literally), the attraction was as spectacular as the fireworks in a Fourth of July celebration. Given that Arabella is still nursing her broken heart from Parker, she was hesitant to enter anything with Grayson, no matter how much she was kicking herself for asking the relationship to slow down to friendship status. Greyson, on the other hand, was not deterred by Arabella's request and agreed to her terms while trying his best to delay his parents from forcing him to marry someone who he does not love. Of course, no fairytale would be complete without our villains and conflicts. Every tale has to have them to have our heroes get to their HEA. In Arabella and Greyson's case, their pasts come back to threaten their happiness. There is intrigue, deceit, and blackmail to add to this modern fairytale twist. The book touches the topic of anxiety (panic) attacks as one of the characters had it. It is important to note that there is no straightforward cure for this and a lot of people struggle living with this in their daily lives. When anxiety interferes with daily activities, it may already be an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is a severe medical condition and is the most common mental disorder that can cause irreparable damage to people's lives. Proper diagnosis is needed to address the issues at hand better. Seeking professional support and finding ways to manage these attacks will help patients but bringing this topic up more often as a public service announcement will help society beat this disease. In summary, I got Princessa-ish immediately from the start. It is an easy read and current. After Royal Wedding fever, it is not unheard of, and the events are believable. The language is direct and edgy. The book's humor is spot on, and it kept Greyson and Arabella's connection real. There are the usual suspects of conflict but enough to not divert attention to the love story. The pace was good and sufficient for me to connect with both characters.

  • A Princessa-ishly little story.

Princessa-ish is the third book in the ‘Happily Ever After’ series by Joslyn Westbrook. It’s a complete standalone as neither of the two previous books have an impact on this one. I haven’t read them yet, but I will be sure to do so after reading this wonderfully, heartwarming and romantic take on a fairytale story. Arabella is the ‘pricessa’ in question, a sweet, and innocent southern heiress to a hotel chain. She meets Grayson - a genuine price who’s on the run from his real life and duty to the crown of Andorra. It’s love, lust and passion at first sight, but they don’t dive in head-first. This is a slow-burning sweet and sexy tale where the couple truly get to know one another before the clothes come off. And in some exceptional secondary characters and the cutest little furbaby and you will be in literary heaven. I know I was. One-Click this beauty today and forget all your Friday 13th and Covid induced troubles for a few hours.
