    Read BEFORE #1

This book is actually the beginning of it all. Peri Jean needs to find herself, get comfortable, and hang on for the ride she's about to take. Read this one BEFORE #1 if possible.

If you don't read this book, you're missing out!

Let me just start by saying that yes, this is a short read. And YES, it is worth paying to read it even though it isn't a Tolstoy-length novel. The amount of thought, research, content editing, and just plain blood, sweat, and tears the author must go through to make this story perfectly mesh with the books following this account (which, if you don't know, was written after them) cannot be understood by mere mortals such as ourselves and should not be minimized because of story length. Now that we've covered that...I had to put this book down more than once because my emotions were being ravaged. I've read all of the Peri Jean Mace books, and I get a total kick out of them. The characters are real, the setting is skillfully presented, the chills and thrills are non-stop, and the interpersonal relationships are so authentic, you'd swear you know these people. Rear View had me in knots from the beginning. The other books gave hints of how things were for PJM when she was young: how dreamy Chase was, how smarmy Tubby was, how absolutely wretched, disgusting, deplorable, and just downright nasty Felicia, Principal Holze, and Sherrif Holze were. But NOTHING could have prepared me for seeing them in action. I was so angry at one point, I imagined driving past Felicia and getting her with the car door. This story is great and fills in so many blanks, which wonderfully rounds out the rest of the books. As long as PJM is having hair-raising adventures, I'll be there.

    where Peri Jean came from

Peri Jean Mace is a character we can all identify with to some degree. This high school experience helps us understand her background and what makes her tick. I loved it.
