    Great mystery!

This is book 17 in the Heroes For Hire series and it features Reyes and Raina. I couldn’t imagine having a mother like Annemarie or Melissa, or a sister like Reana. They are terrible women! Poor Raina. Her boss, her mother AND her sister! It’s a wonder she’s still sane. As horrible as Reana was to everyone, I felt sorry that she couldn’t really be herself for fear of judgment. Something like that really messes with your mind. That’s a sad way to live. I wish we would have seen the bada$$ Navy SEAL come out of Reyes but sadly all we saw was the introvert. The story line was good and so were the characters. The mystery and suspense were fantastic!

Good, but not a page turner

I was kindly provided this book as an ARC; in exchange for my honest review. This is book 17 of 18 in the Heroes for Hire series. This book centers around Reyes and Raina. Reyes is a newer hire for the Texas based Heroes for Hire paramilitary group run by Levi and Ice. Reyes Drere came from a long line of gardeners. When Reyes joined Legendary Securities after serving eight years as a Navy SEAL he’d knew he wasn’t going home to work for the family business since his ex-fiancé Reana worked for the business as an accountant and he had no interest in seeing her. Reana’s twin sister Raina (such silly names, reminds me of Rick and Dick Ortega, twins from my high school days)... was a good friend to Reyes that he’d always had a “thing” for, but he had no idea how to approach her even two years after his split from Reana. I’ll be honest, I think that this wonderful series has hit its peak and now seems almost like the “sparkle” has left. I had zero problem putting the book down (which is completely different from the norm for Ms. Dale’s books). It’s all been done/seen before. The heat level was minimal and almost seemed like an afterthought in order to still qualify as a “romance.” This story was more of a murder/mystery than the expected hot alpha military romance expected. It is well written (a few editing issues (like plain vs. plane), but these may have been resolved by time the book was published. You don’t really have to read previous books in the series to understand this story, but it may help so you know who the characters are that are referenced. I think this series needs to come to a beautiful end - say with Ice and Levi finally getting married?!

    Suspense, Mystery And Drama

This book has plenty going on to help maintain your interest. Suspense, drama, mystery, secrets and romance are all cleverly blended into the well written story. I did like both characters but to be 100% honest neither one would make my favorite list. I'm not exactly sure why. Could it have been his attitude?, the fact that he was engaged to her twin at one time?, or simply the fact that I couldn't let go of the fact that I felt she was his second choice? It was probably a combo of all three.

Getting it right the second time

Reyes heads to his home town with Ice to arrange a deal between Legendary Securities and his family's gardening business. As much as he tries to avoid his ex, Reana, he's also drawn to her twin sister, Raina, who works at his family's business. No sooner is he in town than trouble starts, and he's the only one who can help Raina deal with the unthinkable. Reyes and Raina are quiet, introspective people so their romance is understated and slow-burning. It was a tender, sweet story to read, despite the horrible circumstances with her family. Getting to know his family at the same time really added depth to both characters. The story is also an intense whodunnit as Reyes and Ice work with the local authorities as well as their own team to solve the mystery. It's a compelling read with a satisfying HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

    Going Home

Reyes liked his job in Texas and he liked his boss, Ice. That's why he ended up going back to his hometown, to his family's business to help her select some plants. He was also returning to a place with bad memories of the last time he was there. However, no matter how much Reyes had dreaded going back home, he never imagined that he would be accused of murder. Raina and Reyes had been friends for a long time. She worked for his family's business and her twin was Reyes's ex-fiance. She is just as shocked as everyone else when her sister is murdered and even more shocked that Reyes is a suspect. They work together to try find the real killer.
