  • Nice twists

A good engrossing mystery on two levels. Continues from the past and runs in the present. Gives rise to a new series going forward. I'll be back.

  • Well

Has an interesting style b5ut you really need need to pay attention. He jumped most around a lot and if you weren't focused, you were lost a lot. Also, I thought the cast of characters was large. Another issue to keep straight. I've read 2 now. He is not my favorite author, but probably I'll go for number 3.

  • Rough and Uncompromising

IQ's back and Dodson, now in a better place in his life, tags along. An unwelcome reminder from the past rears its ugly head, and Isaiah must track down the culprit in a crime he had never expected to solve. In Las Vegas, two gamblers get in over their heads, with Isaiah and Dodson to ride to the rescue. Except that it's never that easy, is it? With barrio bangers and Triad secrets in play, life will be tenuous, tricky and unpleasant for our repressed hero. Long Beach and Vegas won't look like tourist spots after this read, but you might have a better feel for what lies beneath... Joe Ide's writing is tense and insightful, full of gallows humour and tragedy, with just enough light to make the darkness pulse with threat. Read this. Book three is now high on the list for me. Hopefully, the TV show will be made, and the books will receive the attention they deserve.
