    Another Treasure for Darcy Burke

Elijah Hollister is a reluctant Earl, who was never meant to inherit. A cryptic letter left behind by his brother, the former Earl, makes his sudden death suspect. Elijah, a worldly soldier used to surviving the rugged terrain of Australia, is vastly out of his element in the world of antiquities. Enter Miss Catriona Bowen, who is on a quest to find one of the lost treasures of Brittan to prove that women should be taken seriously as antiquarians. Elijah owns the tapestry that leads to the treasure. Catriona is connected to the people Elijah needs to question. Together, they set off on a journey to uncover the truth and find a priceless treasure beyond their wildest dreams. I love that Catriona is intelligent and independent. She's a spitfire, who doesn't back down from any challenge. Elijah is a man who grew up without the joys of a normal childhood and has no place for love in his orderly regimented life. We all have dreams and per-conceived ideas of how our lives should be. All it takes is one person and a set of harrowing circumstances to make us see that what we need isn't' always what we want. I am privileged to be a part of Darcy’s Dream Team, where I receive ARCs in exchange for honest reviews.

Mystery, Romance and the legend of King Arthur!

This is the second book in the series, although it stands alone quite well, it does have some parts that will make more sense (or just bring back good memories) if you've read the first, The deValery Code. Having said that, this book is fantastic on its own as well! The stories Darcy Burke weaves are fantastical, maybe, but you want to believe them. I really ant to believe that secrets in the books are true. Elijah Hollister never wanted the life he now has. His life was in the military and in Australia. He liked it there. He knew what was expected of him and he had many friends. His brothers sudden carriage accident has left him with no family that he can appreciate and a house full of antiquities that he has no need for. Miss Catriona Bowen shows up at the door of the New Lord Norris and turns things upside down! She is only interested in one thing. A tapestry owned by the family. She believes it is there and she will stop at nothing to find it. Elijah has no notion of who she is but sees right away that she is stubborn and insistent. She is also lovely. What a conundrum! Her maid, Grey, is very stoic and only adds to Miss Bowen's mysteriousness. Once they start talking of the tapestry certain things come to mind for him and he starts to find out more things about this tapestry, such as other inquiries and even an attempted burglary. He begins to suspect his brother's "accident" was nothing of the sort. Miss Bowen wants the tapestry for her own because then she will finally be taken seriously as an antiquarian. The men always disqualify her and she has had enough. She is out to prove that a woman can be as good as a man in this field. Her father is one of the leading antiquaries as was his father before him. She just needs one break. One article to help her show them all! Lord Norris is going to sell her that tapestry. She is sure she can persuade him. The adventure starts when Lord Norris figures out where the tapestry may be. His brother, realizing it's worth, hid it somewhere! They are in this together, whether he wants her along or not. he just wants to find out who may have murdered his brother! Along with her maid, Grey and his valet (and ex-batman) Wade, they set out to find the answers to their own questions. Mystery and intrigue follow this tale of Arthurian legend and romance. There are miscreants and mischief, but nothing Miss Bowen can't handle, except Lord Norris, of course. She is very attracted to him and he to her, though they both deny their feelings. Darcy Burke makes the legend seem real and entices me to learn more about it all. Including Welsh. That would be very interesting. I truly love they way the author writes her characters, with heart and feeling. They are real people with real consequence. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and a great romance! *I received a copy of this book for my honest review (and I honestly give it 5 stars!)*

    Good Regency Romance

Romancing the Earl is the second book in the Regency Treasure Hunters series and features Cate, the daughter of Rhys and Margery, although they aren't prominently featured in the book. I find I'm really learning a lot about how life during the time period featured and that's really interesting to me. I personally understand very little about nobility and propriety during those times and these books give a great glimpse into that. I like that the romantic aspects of this story revolve around two people who don't intend to marry - neither of them do. Many of their decisions around personal interactions are influenced by these feelings; and both Cate and Elijah alternatively reach for each other, and push each other away, due to their feelings about marriage. It influences Cate's decision to flout propriety in favor of her dreams, and it influences Elijah's decisions regarding his alternating feelings for Cate. This couple definitely goes back and forth with regards to dealing with the feelings they didn't know they had and it made for an interesting dynamic throughout the story. I have read many romance novels with varying levels of sexual intimacy included. I found the way that the author includes the intimacy in this book truly enhances the book. Due to the politics regarding female behavior and propriety of the time, a woman of society was expected to remain pure until her marriage, so the introduction of sexual tension and sexual chemistry takes on a new meaning when the implications of sex have such far reaching impacts. These aspects are woven seamlessly into the story and really enhances the overall story as it progresses. I also really enjoyed the mystery aspects of Romancing the Earl. The way in which this mystery implies the author intends future books to find more treasures, and this reader is looking forward to future mysteries about the Authurian treasures. I feel the intrigue aspects of the story were secondary to the true mystery of analyzing the clues and identifying the location of the treasure Cate sought, and the author draw in the reader just as Cate drew Elijah in to the excitement of the mystery and the search for the treasure. And while Cate and Elijah are searching for the treasure, and the men responsible for Elijah's brother's death, they didn't realize what they would also find is their love for each other.

    A spellbound adventure.

Any one that follows my reviews know that I love a strong and fearless female character. Darcy Burke delivered that with Catriona. Never afraid to speak her mind and go after what she wanted, definitely not a damsel in distress. Elijah is one of those stoic characters who doesn't trust very easily yet is drawn to this enigma of a woman. He knows more is going on and wants answers. Romancing the Earl is a historical adventure that will leave you spellbound. I know I was. Received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
