    Sweet, but not saccharine

Sweet - but not overly so - F/F romance featuring characters from Carriger's much loved Parasolverse. Really enjoyed seeing Genevieve finally meet her match, after all the sadnesses in her life. Appreciated the author's informed knowledge of the historical period she writes into, and admired the fact that despite the 'alternate history' setting, she was willing to face up to the more unpleasant realities of life in service at the time (too many genre historical romances featuring lower-class protagonists often seem to romanticise this era and gloss over the way it put working people, especially females, at extreme risk.) Also greatly appreciated the characteristically good-quality proofreading on this work; I really enjoy the fact that the flow of Carriger's writing is NOT constantly interrupted by egregious typos, as is sadly far too common in speculative fiction publishing....

    Romantic comedy novella

Imogene Hale is a very worthy addition to the Parasolverse. The novella is poignant, funny and entertaining all in one. It was lovely to see many of the old characters from the Parasol Protectorate make an appearance. Award-worthy

    A true delight

I have been a fan of Miss Carriger's work for a good long time. This story is simply lovely and a wonderful epilogue, although I do hold out hope for more stories of Genevieve, for our favourite inventor. I find myself empathizing closely with Alexia in that I too am sad to have missed my chance with this fictional character.
