    Classic McKinley

I've read both Beauty and Rose Daughter and they are differently good. I do love her books, I love the sensibility of them and the prosaic passages in amongst the fairytale. I'm glad it ends as it does (i won't say bc spoilers - but i am glad that Beast is as he is and they go where they go), but i wish there was more of the life after. Somehow that seems like the missing adventure.

    Delightful

Robin McKinley is, in my opinion, a master at telling and re-telling stories and "Rose Daughter" is a prime example of this. This is, obviously, a re-telling of the classic fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" and she tells the story beautifully, in my opinion - but then I have always been a passionate lover of folk/fairy tales. So, to all my fellow passionate lovers of this genre, I highly recommend this book to you. Some people might feel that this re-telling is somewhat dated but, for me, that's the beauty of it. A delightful tale, well told.

A Different Take of the Beauty and Beast Story

Beauty and her sisters' lives are turned upside down, yet they may find the magic they've been searching for in Robin McKinley's Rose Daughter. I started reading this book because of Beauty and the Beast coming out in theaters in March 2017. McKinley has a different take on the "tale as old as time." Beauty is a charming and quite resilient character. Though I found the poetic prose sometimes got in the way of the action and slowed the pace, I did enjoy the magic and world building.
