  • A RomCom with laughter and heart!

Royal Bastard is the perfect read to brighten up your day and make you smile. In true Avery Flynn fashion, this book will keep you entertained from start to finish! I love stories where people underestimate the underdog and it only makes them fight to surprise you. Nick is my new book boyfriend and I'll fight anyone who says differently!

  • Don't skip this one!

Nooooo! I don't want it to be over!  And to think I almost didn't request this! Royalty tropes are not my usual reads.  But reading the synopsis changed my mind.  Our hero is Nick Vane, an American, who was allowed to keep the family name as ling as his father returned to England to fulfil his duties. Now his grandfather the Earl of Englefield is looking to make Nick his heir.  Brooke is the Earl's personal secretary tasked with getting Nick to the estate. Her persistence wears him down. And he finds himself flying to England. Loved their chemistry.

  • 4.25⭐ An utterly charming story

Royal Bastard was a wonderful read that drew me in from the start. As American inventor Nick travels to England and the home of his grandfather the Earl of Englefield for one reason, and one reason only, and that is to tell the Earl where he can stick his title. And I was really excited to see this story was set in England. But admittedly I was also a little nervous as sometimes authors can mangle the words we Brits speak or at least regularly use words we wouldn't. But I can safely say on this aspect alone Avery Flynn knocked it out of the park, and I could really tell she had visited the area this book is set in, although the village itself is fictional. The characters felt super authentic as did the language, although some were missing that Yorkshire twang. But certainly they were all eccentric, welcoming, and delightful and I loved that; and the plot really drew me in. As did the main characters Brooke and Nick, who is understandably reluctant to be in England and anywhere near the man who rejected him and treated his mother so badly. And whilst this story had some emotional issues running through it, it was also sweet, entertaining and one hundred percent engaging, and genuinely I was charmed throughout, especially with the epilogue, which is why I would happily recommend it to others. **I was kindly provided with an ARC via Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review**

  • Bring on the sequel

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author as part of her review team. I enjoyed this book and especially liked the reverse royal role - Nick is in line for the “earldom” - but doesn’t want anything to do with it. Brooke works for the earl and is trying to get Nick to accept his new role and responsibilities - mainly to benefit her hometown of Bowhaven, which is stuck in a rut because of the reigning Earl (Nick’s grandfather). The steam between the characters is HOT! I hope there is another book that picks up where this one left off!

  • Couldn’t put it down

Nick is a brilliant inventor but totally clueless when it comes to personal relationships, after his father’s desertion and his mother’s death. The last thing he wants is to be the heir to his English grandfather. Brooke is his grandfather’s secretary and to say she’s a bit pushy is an understatement. But she’s a riddle to be solved and an enigma that is totally attractive to Nick. She’s a bit hard to get a read in at first but she quickly grew on me. Funny and hot is a hard combination to pull off successfully, but I can always count on Avery Flynn to do exactly that with every story she writes. She won me over yet again with Royal Bastard!
