    Great alien romance

Enjoyed both of the main characters. The female proved her worth and had the right attitude. Lucky for her that she trusted he instincts when she met her alien.

    Steaming!

Not just steaming, but a story line and characters worth the paper it is printed on. Was sceptical about this book when I first got it, but I'm off to buy the rest. Good read.

A fun but not serious intro to SF erotica

An interesting riff on Anne McCaffrey's seminal The Thorns of Barevi, or alien seduction theme. Not really romance this is more lighthearted SF-adventure erotica, so you will see less emotional scenes and a lot more steamy action. Despite the direct premise, it was actually kind of fun in a Harry Harrison operatic over the top manner, with some interesting world building leading up to the seduction. It was also pretty good to see both characters holding back and not giving in straight away, which added some tension and drama, also not knowing whether Lis was really playing Ruwen, or wasn't she? The novel is not very long so we don't get a lot of back story from the two protagonists although much is hinted at or mentioned. It was cute how the big tough merc/assassin turned out to be far softer than the hardened and determined Wastelander used to living hand to mouth, doing whatever was needed to survive. Lis was actually stronger in almost every respect than Ruwen, with a complementary and useful skillset, despite never having left the ghettos of Earth. To readers who may complain about fast bonding and how unrealistic it was, the process isn't explained - it may have been telepathic, pheromones, a combination, or something else entirely. Much like many other background concepts it's just presented, and it's up to you how you accept it. This is also an all-but-universal trope in this subgenre. I won't quote them here but there are literally paragraphs after paragraphs where both Ruwen and Lis question the bond, how it worked, and whether it even existed in this case or they were being set up. I recommend much as with popcorn-level science fiction, you follow Ruwen's lead, just lie back and enjoy without overthinking it!
