Farfetched waste of time with silly characters

This is a very thinly plotted book with little realism. We have to believe that an unscrupulous millionaire in a fictional town "owns" the police chief while he counterfeits money. The Secret Service anti-counterfeit squad are portrayed as idiots who also have to cater to the chief. The main character Detective Maddison Knight comes across as unbelievably impulsive and incompetent. This book is a total waste of time - I gave up on it after reading 20% of it.

    Thankfully NOT Hard-boiled

Though this is the third book in the series, it's the first book I read, and had no difficulty following along with the characters and plot. It's tagged as 'hard-boiled' but I was glad it really was not. Look forward to getting to know more of Madison Knight.

    Too hard

Good plot, but hard to read because of the odd use of punctuation and words

    Sacrifice

Fast, easy read. There was added character development in this book which was nice to see. Maddison's partner, Terry, could benifit from more depth; at times I see him as a prop rather than a full character. And Maddison herself is painted in likes and dislikes, more so than thoughts or feelings. Police and legal aspects are very good however and follow proper procedures and precedents, which serves to ground the story in reality.
