  • I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Hoffman made her characters and home feel real and alive. I felt like I had been transported to the South with the nostalgia and warmth of the characters. Beautifully written and crafted, each person was distinct, human, and real. She allowed flaws to be part of the women which highlighted their strengths and character all the more. Love the aspect of family being crafted not just by blood but by the relationships that form among women. The emotion and warmth of this book linger past the final page and stays with you.

  • A magnificent debut novel, this story is a touching tale of rescue, healing and true family, which is not always the one we're born into. The perfect mix of Southern spiced humor and truth, it will make you laugh and cry, laugh til you cry, and miss the characters like old friends when you turn the last page. This is a truly beautiful work of Southern coming-of-age fiction.

  • Heartwrenching tale!

I loved it although my heart went out to this young girl who was left to fend for herself and a mother who is suffering from psychosis and is living in the past. She wanders the town in thrift shop evening gowns embarrassing her pre-teen daughter who has been left by her travelling salesman father to deal with the aftermath. Finally, after a tragedy occurs, CeeCee goes to live with her Great Aunt in the South and learns that life can be wonderful once she comes to terms with her guilt over what happened. It spoke to my heart!
