  • Wonderful Romance

Dalton MacIain is a tortured man. He is blind and extremely unhappy. He has come back from war only to find his brother has died and the title was now his. He is a hermit in his own home, surrounded by people but lonely. Washing his sorrow away with spirits. He was the worst kind of wastrel before. He had fun before. He was a rake before. Before he decided, on a lark, to go to America and fight in a war that had nothing to do with him. He and his band of misfits run off to America only to find the most terrible things. War is very ugly. The last thing he remembers seeing in someone point a pistol at him and gun shots. That person was supposed to be a friend. Miss Minerva Todd has not heard from her feckless brother in quite some time. He has gone to America with that scoundrel Dalton MacIain. She needs to speak to him to find out if he knows where her brother is. Neville had left so abruptly Minerva was still angry about that, but worries for his safety far outweighs any hurt feelings about the way he left. Minerva must see Dalton to find out what happened to her brother. He refuses to see her so she must find another way to see him. She does find a way! She is an unconventional woman at best. I loved the fast pace of the story, the characters were very interesting and dynamic. I felt for Dalton. I can't imagine being blind. And Minerva was so confused about her own feelings. It was very real. A bit of mystery surrounds these 2 and it was a good story! I won't give anything away, but I really enjoyed the interaction between these two and the cast of supporting characters as well. The housekeepers especially. A great read, a truly feel good story!
