Greek gods, love, investigation? = I love it!

That was great. I loved this book! This is a book where you can walk along Greek Underworld with a dead Callie. She got herself into the coma after rescuing girl from hitting by the bus. She gets a deal with Hades - to find and stop someone who try to kill his son Plutus (god of wealth). Action goes in good pace, but it's not like Callie has some power and everything goes too easy. I really liked Plutus - a man that is so afraid and sad due to his disabilities. But can he go and live with them? Will something change after this investigation? It's full of mythology characters, some romance and investigating :) I will read book 2 for sure!

    amazingly hilarious and cool

I knew the main character died (its right there in the blurb people) but the way it happened at the end of the first chapter was like wow so we are doing this (insert laughter here). From then on it really goes haywire....and ya Callie dying not the highlight. It does get more insane and crazy and epic! (Oh and so I do not forget humor I have to mention my love for the line of those who died being like the DMV...I had a complete sloth zootopia flash but with dead people and I could not stop laughing) Let me start with Limbo. And immigration officers dealing with ghosts. Oh My God is was wonderful. That the after life starts off like the DMV and an office that runs so slow a snail moves faster. Oh I could not hold in the laughing. The journey to see Hades and the way Callie's mind works just made me laugh the entire time I read it. I do not think I have ever read a character so adept at sarcasm. The sly slightly dark but not mean kind of humor you have to chuckle to. And then when someone looks at you you cough and pretend you didn't laugh. It was pretty amazing. And that's just the first three chapters. It only gets better from there. Case in point read the book!

    A fun twist on mythology

This is only the second book I have read with a modern take on mythology, so it’s impossible for me to compare it within its genre. Likewise, I don’t know much about Greek Gods, so I can’t tell you how accurate the myths are. I can, however, tell you that I really enjoyed it, and that’s what really counts, right? It’s mythology mixed with a modern day detective story, with a dash of romance, so it will definitely appeal to a broad audience. The characters were super fun! Quirky and unique! Callie is a police officer who has died trying to save a life. Now she’s stuck in purgatory, having to place her future in Hades’ hands. But is he really the kind of guy you want to put your trust in? He needs something from Callie and isn’t against blackmailing her to get it. Enter Plutus. This is one god I had NEVER heard of, but I feel inclined to do some research now! He really is an intriguing character! As the God of Wealth, you would think he could potentially be corrupted, but he is totally down to earth (or… down to underworld… you know what I mean). To round out the detective team, Callie is assigned a partner, Tisiphone, one of the Furies. She’s tiny and ferocious, and I absolutely love her! While Callie is reluctant to accept help from people she can’t trust, before the end, they will prove themselves invaluable. While this book is labelled as Adult, I don’t see any reason why mature teens wouldn’t be able to read it. There isn’t any outrageous amounts of language or sexuality. There’s a little bit of sensuality, but it certainly isn’t vulgar in any way. In fact, I could have used a little more heat. I didn’t feel a lot of chemistry and sexual tension between the characters. If you’re going to sell me on love, especially beyond life and into death, then it has to be intense. A lot of the time where Callie and Plutus were bonding was spent in fast forward, skipping over what would have been essential dialogue and character growth. I kinda feel like I missed out on something. So if you’re looking for an exciting read, that can also teach you a thing or two about Greek Mythology, this is definitely the book for you! Life or death battles, beyond evil villains, intrigue and mystery; how can you possibly go wrong? A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
