    Shadow and bone

It was okay, I guess. Pretty cliched in some spots though. Like, Alina is supposedly this plain, brown haired, little girl that no one really expects much of, but of course she still ends up in a love triangle with her best friend and this mysterious stranger who's super handsome and potentially abusive and manipulative, but, you know, who cares, 'cause look at his face. The betrayal didn't even make me feel anything except this vague sense of relief that that romance wasn't going to last, which I'm pretty sure was not the reaction I was supposed to have. Whoever decided that this whole trope was okay... Just... Whatever. Aside from this and some nonsensical worldbuilding details (your setting is based on Russia, her last name should be Starkova, for example) I didn't really have a problem with it? Some scenes were well written, some moments made me care a little about the characters for brief amounts of time, but mostly I was just sort of apathetic towards this book.

    Amazing

An alternate universe 19th century Russia that is so well written you won't find anything like it anywhere else. I work in a bookstore and the one thing I always tell customers is that this book well suck you right in without releasing you until it wants to, the characters are diverse and entertaining with so many secrets you never know what to expect.

    Blown away

In love from the start.. couldn't put it down . I found it lived up to its standards and will be reading the rest...I read her recent book six of crows and was in love. Still liked that book best but this was also great. A must read in my eyes.
