    Amazing action and beautiful romance!

This is the story of Jeremy Malone or Cappy, as everyone knows him and Michelle Alger, a woman he rescued when he was in the army six years ago. Even though she had been beaten and tortured, when they first locked eyes as he picked her up, they both felt the connection they had. After he loaded her on the rescue helicopter he wrote his name and phone number on a piece of paper, put it in her hand, kissed her in the spot behind her ear and told her if she ever needed him to call and he'd be there, no questions asked. Who knew it would be six years before she would need to call that number. There is an amazing collection of people who make up a black ops military group called Sweet Briar Group. Cappy is the commander of SBG. This is an awesome military romance. First of all, these people that make up SBG are all unique but amazing in their own way. They all have their deep-rooted issues and this story happens to be about Cappy's. The guilt eats at him constantly, for the past six years. He thinks what happened to his team and Michelle, is all his fault. He'll soon realize that the SBG team is more like family than he realized. Every inch of this book is crucial to the story line. There are no boring spots. It's all action-packed and often had me reading on the edge of my seat. It's very hard seeing Michelle suffer through an episode of PTSD from her captivity in Columbia. Watching this super sexy, alpha military man be so gentle with her is touching. This is book 2 in the SBG series. I must go read book one. A reader can never have enough favorite books or authors. Great writing!

A few pages into this book and my first thought was: "who goes to a South American country and wanders the rain-forest without armed military escort?" I wouldn't! And if I had to, I'd have to have an exceptional reason and a battalion of troops along with me as well as some air support! Unfortunately for our heroine, her decision to explore the Colombian rain-forest leads to the most horrific experience of her life. Michelle Alger was an exchange student on a trip to Colombia when she was captured and tortured by a cartel until she was rescued by a specialized military team led by Captain Jeremy Malone. Even though their interaction was very brief, a powerful bond was forged between them, a bond that would lead to them being reunited six years later. It's been six years since Colombia and Michelle has mostly kept to herself but the one time she lets her guard down, she becomes embroiled in a murder and goes on the run. Out of options, she contacts Jeremy for help. What she doesn't know is that Jeremy is a part of a clandestine group of operators headed by the senator whose son she's accused of killing and he has his orders regarding her. What follows is an exciting story of unending suspense, intense action and an unbreakable bond that ends in forever love. Both Michelle and Jeremy are unprepared for the strength of the attraction between them and Jeremy finds himself torn between following the orders he's been given and protecting Michelle. SHADOW OF DOUBT exceeded my expectations in every way and has netted Ms. DePaul a place at the top of my list of must-read authors because I was completely drawn in by the writing. The story is like a giant puzzle and only the reader has all the pieces and the task of putting them together to form a picture. Everything appears to be working against the characters and they can't just catch a break! Speaking of characters, Michelle was a warrior in my opinion. Her experiences were enough to break even a hardened soldier, but she kept her head up and fought to regain control of her life. And she was exactly what Jeremy needed. Jeremy was a man hardened by war and loss but with Michelle in his life, he has hope. I was not expecting how emotionally affected I would be by their bond and I loved that Michelle stood up to him and the rest of the team when needed. I really enjoy stories where there is a lot of interaction with secondary characters without the main characters being lost and that was one reason why I loved SHADOW OF DOUBT so much. The secondary characters are so much a part of what happens with the main characters that the story wouldn't be what it is without them. SBG put together a motley crew of people who each have a story to tell and whose personal experiences benefit the entire group in some way. I loved SHADOW OF DOUBT so much that even before I had finished it, I purchased the first book in the series and was on the author's website looking for information on the rest of the series. Loved it!

Great romantic suspense with lots of action as well as sexual tension. Even though as readers we learn early on the bad guys are, the story is written is such a way that you are still drawn into their journey to uncover the truth and prove Michelle's innocence. Michelle is such as strong character, even if she has trouble believing it herself. Cappy is the perfect hero, both protective and tender with Michelle. The relationship between the members of Delta Squad is impressive in both professional and personal levels. I really looking forward to Romeo and Magician's story as well as Talon's - I can't wait to see his walls come down. ARC via NetGalley

    P.A. DePaul dazzles me again!

I’m so glad we’re back with the Delta Squad as they are tasked with finding a murder suspect for a senator’s son. When the suspect turns out to be a woman from Cappy’s past, he immediately starts looking for her. The woman he saved years ago could not be a cold-blooded killer…could she? What starts out as a murder investigation turns into a multi-faceted enigma that challenges all of Cappy’s beliefs in the woman of his dreams. Buckle your seatbelts folks, because you’re in for a wild ride! I really enjoyed SHADOW OF DOUBT! I loved Cappy and about fell out of my chair every time he took his shirt off! What a dream boat! The story was engaging and held my interest throughout the book and pulled at my heartstrings several times. Michelle’s journey has been a tough one; suffering from PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) from her captivity six years prior really did a number on her. I loved how Cappy grounded her and was able to pull her from the PTSD episodes. I thought Cappy and Michelle were paired well together but I did feel Michelle’s character was a little one dimensional. All we really saw of Michelle was her fragility after the kidnapping. She did toughen up at the end and I liked how she was able to start to empower herself. I’ll have to wait to see how she’s developed in the next books in order to see her depth and range. I did have one tiny issue with Romeo. Yes, he is a sexy ladies’ man and it’s obvious from EXCHANGE OF FIRE that he and Magician—a female Delta Force team member—have undeniable chemistry but they aren’t together. What I didn’t like was that I felt Romeo exploits that around Magician by flirting and hitting on other women right in front of her. I’m not sure if these two will be together or not but I think Magician can do MUCH better than that jerk. All-in-all, it was a great read full of suspense, a little intrigue…and did I mention Cappy taking his shirt off? *dreamy sigh* ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. Two broken people, miraculously fitting together.

I was introduced to this author and series by Anna over at Herding Cat & Burning Soup. She had such good things to say about it, that I had to check out the first book in the series myself. I really enjoy strong female characters and one who is a sniper seemed a good fit. I liked the book, and was excited to see book 2 come available on Netgalley. This book picks up shortly after the end of Exchange of Fire. This time are heroine is from the civilian world and the hero is Cappy, head of Delta Squad. Michelle was rescued from being tortured by a Columbian Cartel 6 years ago. Rescued by Captain Jeremy "Cappy" Malone, the same night his entire team is killed in a car bomb at the cartel compound. Cappy went into the SBG, Michelle into Witness Protection. Cappy had given Michelle his number and told her if she ever needed him, he would come, no questions asked. And with her being the number one suspect in the death of a senator's son, she needs him. There were several times that I shed tears in this book. Michelle has been through a horrifying experience and her scars aren't just skin deep. Cappy thinks he's not good enough for her, what with all the members of his team dying that night and his survivor's guilt. These are two broken people who somehow miraculously fit together and make each other better. Their journey towards acceptance of themselves is skillfully intertwined with the overall story arc. Bad guy Victor returns, still pulling strings and manipulating events to his benefit. But we also get to see more in-depth into the other members of Delta Squad and Senator Bob. There is a definite plan in place for the overall story arc, and each individual book gives us a bit more to puzzle over how it will eventually end up. This book spoke to me much more than the first one. I think with the characters and their personalities in place, more time could be spent on their interpersonal dynamics and how they relate to one another versus the outside world. There was less world building and more character building. I strongly suggest starting with book 1 for the complete experience and background. This was a 4 star read for me. Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Intermix for the opportunity to read and review the book.
