    Complex, dynamic, hot

Shattered With You by J. Kenner is book 1 of a new series in the Stark world, with some familiar faces and new ones added in. Eliza Tucker is looking for her missing sister and might just be in a bit over her head. After all she may have played a spy on screen, but unlike her sister Emma, she isn't actually one in real life. Quincy Radcliffe on the other hand is, or was, or both. When their missions intersect things get more complicated. Quincy and Eliza have a history. For 3 months they were in love and then Quincy was gone. What they had hangs between them, as well as secrets that are hidden deep. This book has a nice blend of flashbacks, which get you a glimpse of the passion they shared, while you wait for them to rebuild in the present, and that passion is intoxicating. The connection they shared is so deep that not even the years that have past, and the trust that was broken, can keep it from breaking. Both Eliza and Quincy are a blend of confident capable people and completely broken ones who really need each other. *I will mention that there are themes of abuse and assault that appear in Shattered With You, and while J. Kenner has touched on this in other books, it bears repeating here as a forewarning. Overall I enjoyed Shattered With You and how J. Kenner approaches these complex characters. The balance of resentment for the past and understanding for the future as well as how we are given a somewhat different relationship for them in the present because of experiences in between, but we do get to see what they were and could be again. This gave a degree of realism for how they are now and gives us flawed characters to fall in love with. *I almost put 4 instead of 5 stars because of the content, but it was so integral to how they characters are that I left it 5 stars. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free from the publisher in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
