  • Andy Rocks!

Another rip-roaring romp in the life of lawyer extraordinaire, Andy Carpenter. He is bullied, I mean encouraged to go on a family cruise vacation. Andy loves simplicity and it all boils down to how much he cares for his hometown in Paterson, New Jersey. You can't drown walking the streets in Jersey! Andy survives his vacation to find an urgent plea from his good friend Willie. Andy and Willie bonded over a trial that our favorite lawyer won and Willie was finally released from jail and found not guilty over a wrongful imprisonment. Willie thinks the world of Andy and always has his back. Now for once he has a favor to ask. Can he represent Willy's friend Tony on murder charges? Willie and Tony met in prison when Tony was there on a different set of murder charges! Andy isn't exactly turning cartwheels at the thought of taking on this case. Willie is adamant his friend was innocent both times and Andy can't figure out a way to say no to his loyal friend. This book had me riveted from the first chapter. Several men are shot in the back of the head by the same gun which is buried quite obviously I may add in Tony's backyard. Tony was part of a gang and did jail time and the two men killed turned against him. But nothing adds up. Why wait so many years for revenge and the clues left by the killer were short of erecting a billboard saying I did it! This isn't enough to keep Tony from jail and Andy has to keep digging and sticking his neck into some extremely dangerous situations. I love the series full of snark, brilliant writing and heart-pounding suspense. If I'm ever sent up the river I am hoping for a lawyer as good as Andy to rescue me. Happy Reading! Special thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book for my reading pleasure.

  • Snarky good sleuthing!

law-enforcement, lawyers, murder, murder-investigation, snark-fest, family-dynamics, friendship, private-investigators, gangsters, situational-humor, verbal-humor***** No way this could be an unbiased review. I love Andy Carpenter's world with all the dogs, the complicated interesting characters, the excellent plots, and, in these days of a virus, the snarkiness and all the laughs. Andy Carpenter is the snarkiest un lawyer you'll ever meet. His greatest fans are dogs, his wife(a private investigator and former homicide lieutenant with lots of connections), and his son. Andy is a defense lawyer who (sort of) picks his cases, hates going to court, and always wins for the good guys (his clients). This time his partner in dog rescue asks him to defend a friend he met in prison (see books 1 and 2). It's a case of murder and soon becomes a lot more than that. Lots of sleuthing combined with humor and suspense. Another winner in my book! I requested and received a free ebook copy from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

  • Silent Bite

This is a good mystery, but as you read through the book, you are led to believe that the killing of up to maybe fifteen persons (I lost count of the bodies) is all gang related—and basically it is. The ending is a complete surprise, more so than any other Andy Carpenter book. The victory celebration is outstanding as—in addition to the usual human participants—there are over thirty doggies in attendance. That’s my kind of victory celebration!
